Ubisoft announces changes to its subscription plans, including the rebranding of Ubisoft+ and the introduction of a new plan called Ubisoft+ Classics, and discusses the evolution of the service with Director of Subscription Philippe Tremblay.

  • Day-one access to new releases
  • Early access to certain upcoming games
  • Monthly rewards and premium editions

In a recent announcement, Ubisoft revealed some major changes to its subscription plans alongside the Early Access launch of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown on Ubisoft+. The company is rebranding its subscription plans, with Ubisoft+ Multi-Access and PC Access now becoming Ubisoft+ Premium. This new plan will offer subscribers day-one access to new releases, early access to certain upcoming games, premium editions, monthly rewards, and more. Alongside this, Ubisoft is also introducing a new offer called Ubisoft+ Classics on PC, which will feature a curated selection of popular back-catalog and live games.

To get more insight into these changes and the evolution of Ubisoft+ over the past four years, we sat down with Philippe Tremblay, the Director of Subscription at Ubisoft. According to Tremblay, Ubisoft+ Premium will provide subscribers with day-one access to new releases, early access to some games like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and a wide range of premium editions, DLC, and monthly rewards. This plan will be available on XBOX, PC, and Amazon Luna, and subscribers only need to pay one monthly fee of $17.99 to access these games across all platforms.

On the other hand, Ubisoft+ Classics offers a curated selection of popular back-catalog games such as Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Siege, and Watch Dogs: Legion. This catalog will continue to grow over time and is included for Playstation+ Extra and PlayStation+ Premium Members. It is now available on PC through the Ubisoft Store for $7.99 per month.

When asked about the evolution of Ubisoft+ over the past four years, Tremblay mentioned that they have seen millions of players join the program and collectively enjoy over 600 million hours of playtime. He also stated that 2023 is expected to be their biggest year yet, with a significant increase in subscriber numbers and monthly active users.

In terms of player behavior, Tremblay noted that while games like Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six are popular across all platforms, there is also a lot of diversity in terms of the top games played on each platform. He mentioned that subscription services like Ubisoft+ are a great way to introduce new players to the Ubisoft ecosystem, with one in ten subscribers being new to Ubisoft games.

When discussing Ubisoft+ Classics, Tremblay explained that they noticed players engaging with and enjoying their back catalog when they subscribe. This led them to create a service specifically focused on the catalog, offering players a chance to discover even more of Ubisoft’s worlds.

Regarding the renaming of the subscription plans, Tremblay assured current Ubisoft+ PC Access subscribers that their plan will remain the same, with no changes to the monthly price point. As for combatting churn rates, Tremblay emphasized that Ubisoft’s goal is to continually provide value to subscribers by bringing more games to the service. With an exciting lineup of upcoming games, including the addition of the Activision Blizzard catalog, Ubisoft believes they are offering a compelling reason for players to stick around.

While Tremblay couldn’t provide specific details about the Activision Blizzard games catalog or its release date, he expressed excitement about the partnership and promised more information would be shared in the future.
