Ventana Micro Systems Inc. is stirring up the tech industry with the announcement of the second generation of its Veyron family of RISC-V processors. The new Veyron V2 is a game-changer, offering the highest performance of any RISC-V processor on the market today. The company’s Founder and CEO, Balaji Baktha, will be unveiling the details of the Veyron V2 during his keynote speech at the RISC-V Summit North America 2023 in Santa Clara, California.
Baktha expressed his excitement about the Veyron V2, stating that it represents a significant leap forward in their mission to lead the industry in high-performance RISC-V CPUs that are ready for rapid customer adoption. He emphasized Ventana’s commitment to customer innovation, workload acceleration, and overall optimization to achieve best-in-class performance per watt per dollar. The V2 enhancements are expected to unleash innovation across various sectors, including data centers, automotive, 5G, AI, and client applications.
One of the key highlights of the Veyron V2 is its substantial increase in performance and efficiency. The processor showcases up to a 40% improvement in performance, thanks to significant microarchitecture enhancements, a superior high-performance processor fabric architecture, an enhanced cache hierarchy, and the addition of a high-performance vector processor.
Ventana is also focusing on improving its ecosystem support with the RISE ecosystem initiative. This initiative aims to enable the Veyron V2 to quickly deploy open, scalable, and versatile solutions, further enhancing its appeal to customers.
Lowering development costs and time to market is another area where Ventana has made strides with the Veyron V2. The chiplet-based solutions offered by the V2 chiplet feature industry-leading UCIe chiplet interconnect. This approach provides advantages in unit economics, accelerating time to market by up to two years and reducing development costs by up to 75%. Additionally, chiplet-based solutions offer better unit economics by optimizing compute, IO, and memory. This allows companies to focus on their innovation and differentiation, leading to workload optimization.
Ventana’s Domain Specific Accelerator technology, tightly coupled with the Veyron V2 processor pipeline, is designed to enhance workload efficiency across the entire data center infrastructure while enabling customer innovation and differentiation. This technology is expected to revolutionize the way data centers operate and drive further advancements in the industry.
Industry experts have praised Ventana’s latest offering, with Patrick Moorhead, Founder and Chief Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, stating that the Veyron V2 announcement aligns with the principle that performance per watt per socket per dollar drives innovation across the industry. Moorhead believes that Ventana’s latest offering could set a new benchmark for high-performance computing.
Ventana provides a comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK) that includes a set of software building blocks already proven on Ventana’s RISC-V platform. This SDK simplifies the development process for customers and ensures compatibility with the Veyron V2.
The Veyron V2 boasts impressive features, including a fifteen-wide, aggressive out-of-order pipeline, a clock speed of 3.6 GHz, 4 nm process technology, 32 cores per cluster, high core count multi-cluster scalability of up to 192 cores, 128 MB of shared L3 cache per cluster, a 512b vector unit, Ventana AI matrix extensions, server-class IOMMU and Advanced Interrupt Architecture (AIA) system IP, advanced side channel attack mitigations, comprehensive RAS features, and a top-down performance tuning methodology.
To support developers and facilitate adoption, Ventana has released a Veyron V2 Development Platform. This platform provides an environment for developers to explore and harness the full potential of the Veyron V2 processor.
Ventana’s products will be showcased at their booth in the RISC-V Summit main exhibit hall. Additionally, Greg Favor, co-founder, CTO, and Chief Architect at Ventana, will be delivering a detailed technical presentation on the Veyron V2 during the event.
With the launch of the Veyron V2, Ventana Micro Systems Inc. is cementing its position as a leading player in the high-performance RISC-V processor market. The company’s commitment to customer innovation, performance, and efficiency is evident in the Veyron V2’s impressive features and enhancements. As the tech industry continues to evolve, Ventana’s latest offering is poised to drive innovation across various sectors and set new benchmarks for high-performance computing.
