AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Takes on Intel i9-13900K: Gaming Benchmarks Unveil Ray Tracing Performance

When it comes to gaming CPUs, AMD’s 3D V-Cache processors are stirring up the market. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D, in particular, is proving to be a formidable competitor to Intel’s i9-13900K. Not only does it offer similar or even superior frame rates, but it also comes with a significantly lower power draw. And the best part? It’s more affordable than its Intel counterpart.

Priced under $400, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is giving the $550 i9-13900K a run for its money. To put these CPUs to the test, we’ll be comparing their performance across 22 games, including those that utilize ray tracing technology.

In the gaming benchmarks, Intel’s Core i9-13900K managed to secure its first win in “A Plague Tale: Requiem.” However, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D wasn’t far behind, trailing by just 5% on average. What sets the Ryzen CPU apart is its smoother gameplay experience, thanks to fewer spikes in the frametime graph.

Moving on to “Assassins’ Creed Valhalla,” the Ryzen 7 7800X3D takes the lead over the i9-13900K, delivering much higher lows. It’s worth noting that all recent Assassin’s Creed games exhibit some stuttering behavior, even on the fastest CPUs. This issue has yet to be fixed.

Surprisingly, “Cyberpunk 2077” has gone from being one of the worst-optimized titles to one of the most optimized within a year. In this benchmark, the Core i9-13900K emerges as the winner with a significant 20% lead. However, both CPUs experience some stuttering, with the Ryzen side showing larger spikes towards the end of the benchmark.

“Dying Light 2” ends up being a tie between the two processors, but the Ryzen 7 7800X3D registers notably higher lows. The frametime graph for the 7800X3D reflects a clean line with spikes that correspond to scene changes.

In “F1 2022,” the Ryzen 7 7800X3D takes a paltry 6% lead over the i9-13900K. However, the latter exhibits a fair amount of stuttering throughout the benchmark. The frametime data reveals periodic spikes on the Core i9, representing its worse lows.

Moving on to “Ghostwire Tokyo,” AMD secures another win. However, the Core i9-13900K offers a smoother experience in comparison. Both CPUs face slight micro-stuttering, but the 7800X3D is more affected by it.

“Hitman 3” proves to be another big win for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, boasting a staggering 75% lead over the i9-13900K. The frametime graphs also look much better for the 7800X3D, while the Core i9 produces a bit of a mess.

“Hogwarts Legacy” is yet another game that runs exceptionally well on the 7800X3D, with a lead of over 70% over the Core i9-13900K. The frametimes are notably smoother for the Ryzen CPU, with almost a cap on frametimes at 5ms. In comparison, the i9 faces a fair number of spikes.

“Shadow of the Tomb Raider” favors the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, boasting a 49% lead over the Core i9-13900K. The lows also don’t look good for the i9. However, the frametime graph reveals more consistent frame-pacing for the Intel part.

Even though “The Callisto Protocol” is an AMD partner title, the Core i9-13900K manages a strong win with similar lows. The frametime graphs of the two CPUs are almost identical.

Lastly, “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands,” the final rasterized benchmark, also runs better on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The i9-13900K falls behind by a bit over 10%, with notably worse lows and a messy frametime graph.

In terms of rasterization, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D comes out on top with seven wins compared to the i9-13900K’s four. However, it’s important to note that ray tracing benchmarks were not included in this analysis.

Overall, AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D proves to be a worthy competitor to Intel’s i9-13900K. With similar or even superior performance, lower power draw, and a more affordable price tag, it’s
