Intel’s Marketing Materials Confirm High-Speed CPUs with Impressive Core Counts

Summary: Intel's upcoming Raptor Lake Refresh desktop CPU series is expected to feature 6 GHz clock and 24-core configuration for the Core i9 model, 20 cores for the Core i7 variant, and either a 14/20T or a 10/16T configuration for the Core i5, with a modest 200 MHz increase across the stack.

  • 6 GHz clock and 24-core configuration for the Core i9 model
  • Lower default TDP of 125W compared to its predecessor
  • Expected to be launched on October 17th

Intel has given us a sneak peek at its upcoming desktop CPU upgrade, Raptor Lake Refresh. The leaked marketing materials may not provide a ton of details, but they do confirm the configuration of the new series. The slides reveal the basic specifications for the Core i9, Core i7, and Core i5 models, although the exact names are not mentioned.

According to the materials, we can expect a 6 GHz clock and 24-core configuration for the Core i9 model. The Core i7 variant will feature 20 cores, thanks to the addition of 4 more Efficient cores. As for the Core i5, it will come with either a 14/20T or a 10/16T configuration. These specifications align with what we anticipated, with a modest 200 MHz increase across the stack.

It’s worth noting that the i9-14900k won’t be Intel’s first 6 GHz processor, but it will be the first one that isn’t a special edition (KS). Additionally, this new model will have a lower default TDP of 125W compared to its predecessor, the i9-13900KS, which had a TDP of 150W.

While Intel has yet to confirm the pricing, leaks from initial retail appearances suggest that the new series will be launched on October 17th. However, these leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, as they often lack official confirmation.

Overall, Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh seems to be shaping up as an incremental upgrade rather than a leap forward. Nevertheless, it’s always exciting to see what improvements Intel brings to the table with each new generation of processors.
