Dying Light 2, the highly anticipated game, recently showcased its smooth performance on Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra 100 series, codenamed “Meteor Lake.” This move by Intel is significant as they aim to compete with AMD in the low-power gaming market. Meteor Lake boasts the Alchemist-derived Xe-LPG architecture, integrated into a separate graphics tile within the package, promising to elevate Intel’s integrated GPU performance.

During the demonstration, Intel chose to highlight Meteor Lake’s gaming capabilities using Dying Light 2, which supports XeSS technology. The native rendering was done at 1080p resolution, while the XeSS demo ran at 720p. What’s interesting is that instead of focusing on frame rates (FPS), Intel emphasized FPS scaling, showcasing an increase ranging from 1.6x to 1.7x, occasionally reaching 1.9x.

This demonstration marks the first time Intel has showcased XeSS technology on their integrated graphics. While XeSS is officially supported on all compatible hardware, including Xe MAX iGPUs, this is the first instance where it is being considered for use on low-power GPU solutions for gaming. This opens up the possibility of delivering a playable experience in modern titles.

The Xe-LPG graphics within the Meteor Lake processor series are expected to feature up to 8 Xe-Cores, closely resembling the configuration of the Arc A370M discrete GPU. The launch of the Meteor Lake processor series is scheduled for December 14th, and we eagerly await further updates from manufacturers of handheld gaming systems that will harness this new architecture.
