Update Brings Support for AMD's Upcoming Threadripper PRO 7000WX Series (Storm Peak) HWINFO's latest version, v7.64, brings several improvements and fixes to support AMD's upcoming Threadripper PRO 7000WX series (codenamed Storm Peak), which is expected to include CPUs with up to 96 cores and launch on October 19th.
Updated to Support AMD's Upcoming Threadripper PRO 7000 Series
- HWINFO is undergoing significant enhancements to support AMD's highly anticipated Threadripper 7000WX series.
- Gigabyte is planning an earlier motherboard release to ensure system integrators have a range of options to choose from.
- CPU-Z has also been updated to provide support for AMD's new series.
AMD Storm Peak TRX50 platform is on the horizon, and developers are working diligently to update the popular monitoring tool, HWINFO, to accommodate the upcoming Threadripper series. This comprehensive software is undergoing significant enhancements to support AMD’s highly anticipated Threadripper 7000WX series, codenamed Storm Peak. Notably, one of the resolved issues in this update addresses a problem affecting CPUs with 64 cores, which is crucial given the rumors of the upcoming Threadripper CPUs boasting up to 96 cores.
According to the changelog, the new version of HWINFO should offer enhanced support for Storm Peak, indicating its capability to recognize the SKUs set to launch next week. The lineup is expected to include at least four models, ranging from 12 to 96 Zen4 cores.
In addition, the changelog mentions Gigabyte’s new TRX50 motherboard series. While Gigabyte had previously released commendable TRX40 motherboards for the Threadripper 3000 series, unfortunately, they were not compatible with the 5000 series. However, with the upcoming TRX50 platform featuring a new socket along with DDR5 and PCIe Gen5 support, it is poised to offer hardware support upon release.
The latest version of HWINFO, v7.64, brings several improvements such as integrated PresentMon for FPS, Frame Time, and GPU Busy monitoring. It also enhances fan speed monitoring on select ASUS notebooks, VRM monitoring on GIGABYTE Z690 and Z790 series, and sensor monitoring on new MSI mainboards. Additionally, it fixes various issues and improves support for AMD Strix and Storm Peak.
Rumors suggest that the Threadripper PRO 7000WX might initially be exclusive to OEMs like HP, Lenovo, or Dell, with a potential later release for DIY enthusiasts. However, Gigabyte is planning an earlier motherboard release to ensure system integrators have a range of options to choose from. ASRock is also actively preparing for the debut of their TRX50 series, but there is no news yet on ASUS or MSI developing TRX50 boards.
It’s worth mentioning that HWiNFO is not the only software supporting Threadripper PRO 7000. CPU-Z has also been updated to provide support for AMD’s new series, which is scheduled to launch on October 19th.
