  • MXM-based expansion card designed for solid-state storage
  • Intel iGPU Quick Sync acceleration for video transcoding servers like Plex

Minisforum, known for its compact computing solutions, is expanding its product lineup with the launch of its first-ever standalone motherboard, the EYERTEC AD650i. This Mini-ITX board features the powerful Intel Core i5-12650H Alder Lake 10-core CPU, originally designed for mobile devices. Setting itself apart from other mini-ITX boards, the AD650i does not include the commonly found PCIe x16 slot.

One notable feature of the AD650i is its MXM-based expansion card designed for solid-state storage. While details about potential MXM GPU support are still undisclosed, the expansion card can accommodate up to three PCIe Gen3 M.2 storage devices. Additionally, it offers support for various RAID configurations, including RAID0, RAID1, and RAID5, making it an attractive option for users looking to utilize this system as a server. The motherboard also supports two additional 2.5-inch SATA SSDs.

The AD650i is marketed as an excellent choice for building high-speed home NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems. Despite lacking a discrete GPU, it can leverage Intel iGPU Quick Sync acceleration for video transcoding servers like Plex. With this capability, it can handle up to four parallel 4K HEVC video streams simultaneously.

Furthermore, the system comes equipped with USB4 support and a 2.5G network card. Users can easily connect HDMI monitors to enhance their viewing experience.

It’s important to note that the AD650i is not a complete MiniPC but rather a motherboard with certain components pre-installed. The package includes the CPU cooler and the CPU itself, while memory and storage options are left to the user’s discretion based on their preferences and chosen configuration.

The AD650i is now available for purchase on TikTok Shop at a price of 2599 RMB ($354). This price covers the CPU and motherboard with the expansion slot, while DDR4-3200 memory and storage need to be acquired separately according to the user’s requirements.

Minisforum’s foray into standalone motherboards with the AD650i showcases their commitment to providing innovative solutions for compact computing enthusiasts. With its powerful CPU, storage expansion capabilities, and support for high-speed networking, this motherboard offers a compelling option for those looking to build efficient home server systems.
