Microsoft’s upcoming Surface laptop series has been leaked, providing us with a glimpse of what to expect. German website WinFuture has revealed the specifications and design of the Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Laptop Go 3.
Starting with the Surface Laptop Studio 2, it seems that the major upgrades will be in the CPU and GPU departments. The 14.4-inch screen will remain the same as its predecessor, featuring a 3:2 aspect ratio, a resolution of 2400×1600, and a 120Hz Refresh Rate. The display will continue to support high-precision input through the stylus, thanks to PixelSense technology.
Under the hood, the Studio 2 will be powered by Intel’s “Raptor Lake” processors. Two options will be available: the Core i7-13700H with 14 cores and 20 threads, capable of reaching up to 5.0 GHz, and the Core i7-13800H with the same core and thread count but a higher clock speed of up to 5.2 GHz. These processors have a TDP of 45W and a maximum turbo power of 115W.
In terms of graphics, the Studio 2 will feature either the Geforce RTX 4050 or RTX 4060 GPUs. It’s important to note that these are laptop GPU variants with different specifications compared to their desktop counterparts. The AD107 GPU will be utilized, with either 2560 or 3072 CUDA cores, and memory configurations of either 6GB with a 96-bit interface or 8GB with a 128-bit interface.
Memory options have also received an upgrade, with the inclusion of a 64GB LPDDR5X configuration. The current version of the Studio offers either 16 or 32GB of memory. Additionally, Microsoft has added a Micro-SD slot and a USB Type-A connector to the system, which were absent in the 2021 model.
As for pricing, the base variant without a discrete GPU and relying on Intel Xe graphics is expected to start at 2249 EUR. The model with an RTX 4050 will be priced at 2729 EUR, while the RTX 4060 version with 32GB of system memory will start at 3199 EUR. It’s worth noting that there are more powerful Laptops available for content creation with superior screens and graphics, but they won’t offer the same tablet/laptop hybrid experience that the Studio 2 aims to provide.
In comparison, the Gigabyte AERO 16 OLED system, featuring an i7-13700H, RTX 4070, and a 4K OLED panel, currently retails for $1999. Those looking for a smaller screen might consider the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14, which offers two screens (14.5″ and 12.7″), an i9-13900H CPU, and RTX 4060 graphics, all for $2399.
Microsoft is set to unveil its new Surface products on September 21, where we can expect more details and official pricing information.
