Intel’s Leaked 144-Core Sierra Forest and 64-Core Emerald Rapids Xeon CPUs: A Game-Changer

The leaked information about the 144-core Sierra Forest and 64-core Emerald Rapids CPUs has left enthusiasts and professionals alike excited for what’s to come. To accommodate this additional cache and four more cores, Intel has reduced the die count from four to two. The stock memory speed of Emerald Rapids reaches an impressive 5,600MT/s, with support for up to 4TB of octa-channel DDR5.

Moving on to the 6th Gen Xeon Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest parts, it’s important to note that these are still in the Engineering Sample stage. Granite Rapids boasts a complex chiplet design with three compute dies and two I/O dies. The core count seems to max out at 56 cores, indicating the use of 20 core chiplets, similar to Sapphire Rapids. The L3 cache has been slightly reduced to 288MB compared to Emerald Rapids’ 320MB.

One exciting development with Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest is the increase in stock DDR5 clocks. These processors will support speeds of up to 6,400MT/s and offer up to 8 channels. While the base and boost clocks currently range from 1.2 to 1.5GHz and 2.6GHz respectively, these numbers are expected to improve as these are early samples.

Sierra Forest, set to launch ahead of Granite Rapids, is particularly intriguing. It will feature up to 144 Crestmont “E” cores and 108MB of L3 cache. Both Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest will be manufactured on the Intel 3/3nm node and utilize the LGA4710 socket with a TDP of 350W. These cloud products are slated for release in late 2023 or early 2024.
