nVidia has recently released a Software Development Kit (SDK) for its latest version of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology. This update has caused quite a stir in the gaming tech world, with AMD also unveiling their own DLSS3 competitor, FSR3. Both upscaling technologies are set to be released in the fall, with some anticipating the first game titles to drop as early as next month.

Tech reviewers are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to compare FSR3 and DLSS3.5 side by side. One game that will allow for this comparison is Cyberpunk 2077, which is confirmed to receive DLSS 3.5 and FSR3 patches in the future. AMD has revealed that there are currently a dozen games on the upcoming FSR3 compatibility list, with more to come. NVIDIA, on the other hand, has only confirmed DLSS3.5 for titles like Cyberpunk, Portal RTX, and Alan Wake 2, with promises of additional additions soon. All of these advancements are expected to be released in the fall.

In addition to this, NVIDIA has also introduced a new software development kit (SDK) that includes support for DLSS 3.5. This was discovered by “emoose,” the creator of DLSSTweaks, a tool that allows gamers to customize DLSS settings and profiles.

It’s important to note that DLSS 3.5 does not automatically enable ‘Ray Reconstruction.’ This feature requires integration into a game’s graphics pipeline by the developer. For those using Unreal Engine 5, the process is expected to be simpler as NVIDIA offers a 3.5 UE5 plugin. Redditors have already found a readme file explaining the structure of the plugin.

Although DLSS 3.5 comes with improved upscaling algorithms, some gamers have already reported significant improvements in image quality and reduced ghosting by swapping out libraries in games like Last of Us or Need for Speed Unbound. However, it’s crucial to remember that simply swapping the DLL won’t activate ray reconstruction. Developers need to take specific steps to incorporate this feature into their games.
