ASUS has unveiled a trio of high-end gaming monitors at Gamescom, featuring OLED technology, high refresh rates, and peak brightness of up to 1300 nits, with the 31.5-inch and 34-inch models set to launch in Q1 2021 and the 49-inch model in Q4 2020.

ASUS Unveils New High-End Gaming Monitors at Gamescom

ASUS has recently introduced a trio of high-end gaming monitors that aim to deliver the ultimate gaming experience by combining OLED technology with high refresh rates. These monitors, part of the new ROG Swift series, offer gamers the best of both worlds.

The first standout model is the 31.5-inch ROG Swift PG32UCDM. Designed for enthusiasts, this 4K semi-glossy monitor features a world-first QD-OLED panel of this size, representing the second generation of QD-OLED technology. This iteration promises higher brightness and improved text clarity, as reported by attendees at Gamescom. It also boasts an impressive 240 Hz Refresh Rate, a 0.03ms Response Time, and a Peak Brightness of 1000 nits. The monitor is officially certified for VESA’s ‘DisplayHDR 400 True Black’ standard. While it lacks curvature, its size makes this omission less crucial for gamers compared to ultra-wide displays. The monitor supports AMD’s FreeSync Premium for good Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, but there is no information on ‘premium’ G-SYNC Ultimate support. Notably, the cooling technology includes a graphene rear panel, eliminating the need for active cooling and ensuring quieter operation and a longer panel lifespan.

Another addition to the lineup is the 34-inch curved OLED panel, known as the ROG Swift PG34WCDM. With a resolution of 3440×1440 pixels and a 240 Hz refresh rate, it matches the 0.03ms response time of the 31.5-inch model. However, it offers an even higher peak brightness of 1300 nits and supports FreeSync Premium Pro. What sets this monitor apart is its use of a WOLED panel from LG.Display, allowing for the elevated refresh rate. Although the subpixel layout may not be ideal for static content and text, it excels in dynamic, gaming-oriented scenarios. ASUS has implemented a new algorithm to mitigate any adverse effects associated with this layout. Like the PG32UCDM, this monitor features a custom heatsink for passive cooling and is certified for VESA’s ‘DisplayHDR 400 True Black’ standard.

Lastly, ASUS introduces a new 49-inch QD-OLED monitor, the ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD. This curved panel offers a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms response time. It includes Smart KVM, ROG cooling solution, and a resolution of 5120×1440, equivalent to two 2K monitors. The monitor supports DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 connections and offers USB Type-C with 90W power delivery.

It is worth noting that none of the new monitors support the latest DisplayPort 2.0 or 2.1 standards, which is disappointing considering that desktop GPUs with this standard have been available for almost a year.

ASUS plans to launch the 31.5-inch and 34-inch models in Q1 of next year. Pricing details have not been officially announced, except for the 49-inch model, which is set to retail at $1499 in Q4 of this year.
