- Collaboration between NVIDIA and Reliance Industries to develop a large language model specifically designed for generative AI applications
- NVIDIA will provide access to its GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing service in the cloud
- Potential applications of AI in India are vast, such as enabling rural farmers to access weather information and crop prices in their local language
In a move that aims to bolster India’s industrial sector, nVidia and Reliance Industries have joined forces to develop a large language model specifically designed for generative AI applications. This collaboration will cater to the diverse languages spoken in India and cater to the needs of the world’s most populous nation. The companies plan to build an AI infrastructure that surpasses the capabilities of India’s fastest supercomputer by more than tenfold. NVIDIA will provide access to its GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing service in the cloud. The GH200 chip represents a significant breakthrough in computing architecture, offering exceptional performance and substantial memory bandwidth.
Reliance Jio InfoComm, the telecom ARM of Reliance Industries, will leverage this NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure to venture into the realm of AI. As the global AI revolution continues to reshape industries and daily life, Reliance aims to develop AI applications and services for its 450 million Jio customers. Additionally, the company plans to provide energy-efficient AI infrastructure to scientists, developers, and startups across India.
The potential applications of AI in India are vast. For instance, AI can enable rural farmers to access weather information and crop prices in their local language through their cell phones. It can also facilitate expert diagnosis of medical symptoms and imaging scans on a large scale, especially in areas where doctors may not be readily available. Furthermore, AI can enhance cyclone prediction by analyzing decades of atmospheric data, enabling timely evacuations and shelter arrangements for those at risk.
The AI infrastructure will be housed in AI-ready computing data centers, which are projected to expand up to 2,000 MW. Jio, with its extensive products and experience in mobile telephony, 5G spectrum, fiber networks, and more, will oversee the execution and implementation of this ambitious project.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, expressed his enthusiasm about partnering with Reliance to build state-of-the-art AI supercomputers in India. He emphasized India’s scale, data, and talent, highlighting the potential for Reliance to develop its own large language models that power generative AI applications tailored to the needs of the Indian population.
Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in India’s technological advancement. He likened the impact of the envisioned AI supercenters to the transformative role played by Jio in India’s digital revolution. Ambani expressed his delight in partnering with NVIDIA and his anticipation for a purposeful journey together.
Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, echoed his father’s sentiments and emphasized Jio’s commitment in India’s technological landscape. By leveraging the power of AI, India aims to unlock new opportunities and drive widespread growth across various sectors.

Background Information
About ARM:
ARM, originally known as Acorn RISC Machine, is a British semiconductor and software design company that specializes in creating energy-efficient microprocessors, system-on-chip (SoC) designs, and related technologies. Founded in 1990, ARM has become a important player in the global semiconductor industry and is widely recognized for its contributions to mobile computing, embedded systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. ARM's microprocessor designs are based on the Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) architecture, which prioritizes simplicity and efficiency in instruction execution. This approach has enabled ARM to produce highly efficient and power-saving processors that are used in a vast array of devices, ranging from smartphones and tablets to IoT devices, smart TVs, and more. The company does not manufacture its own chips but licenses its processor designs and intellectual property to a wide range of manufacturers, including Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, and NVIDIA, who then integrate ARM's technology into their own SoCs. This licensing model has contributed to ARM's widespread adoption and influence across various industries.Latest Articles about ARM
