Synology has released the DS923+, a powerful 4-bay storage device designed for home office and small business users, offering comprehensive data protection and management, document collaboration, remote file access, asset monitoring, and more.
- Compact desktop format and versatile features
- Easily scale storage and networking
- Site-to-site file syncing for remote file access
Synology, a leading provider of storage solutions, has announced the release of its new 4-bay Synology DiskStation DS923+. This All-in-One storage device is designed specifically for home office and small business users. With its powerful Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, the DS923+ offers comprehensive solutions for data protection and management, document collaboration, remote file access, and asset monitoring.
One of the standout features of the DS923+ is its impressive performance and capability for its size. According to Michael Wang, product manager at Synology, “With the ability to easily scale the storage and networking, it adapts as your needs grow.” This means that the DS923+ can function as the primary storage and data protection solution for homes and small offices, or as an edge node for multi-site deployments.
The DS923+ is capable of storing more than 50 TB across its compact 4-bay setup. However, it can easily be scaled to accommodate more than 120 TB across 9 drives with a DX517 expansion unit. Additionally, users have the option to upgrade to 10GbE networking and add M.2 NVMe SSD drives through the built-in PCIe slot for faster caching or additional all-flash storage pools.
For teams working remotely or businesses operating across multiple locations, the DS923+ offers site-to-site file syncing. This feature enables content mirroring between Synology devices, allowing for convenient remote file access while maintaining the privacy and data ownership of on-premises storage. Furthermore, the DS923+ utilizes Synology Hybrid Share to efficiently store cold data in the cloud while keeping frequently accessed files cached on the device for LAN-speed access.
To ensure data protection against cybersecurity threats, Synology’s Active Backup Suite allows for safe backups of IT infrastructure, including Windows and Linux systems, Hyper-V and VMware VMs, and Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace accounts. Backups and point-in-time snapshots of data stored on the NAS can also be created and sent offsite for increased redundancy.
In addition to its storage capabilities, the DS923+ can also function as a full-fledged video management system. Synology’s Surveillance Station, a powerful VMS currently implemented in over 500,000 sites, offers flexible ONVIF support and compatibility with more than 8,300 validated IP cameras. With Surveillance Station, users can easily set up and manage up to 40 cameras, overlay floor plans and maps for situational awareness, and retain important footage with support for recording server backup and simultaneous dual recording to the Synology C2 cloud.
The Synology DS923+ is available starting today at an MSRP of $599.99 through Synology partners and resellers. With its compact desktop format and versatile features, the DS923+ is an ideal storage solution for home office and small business users looking to protect and manage their data efficiently.

Technology Explained
NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.

SSD: A Solid State Drive (SSD) is a modern data storage device that employs flash memory technology to store data electronically. Unlike traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in significantly faster read and write speeds. This leads to quicker boot times, faster application loading, and smoother overall system performance. SSDs are known for their durability, shock resistance, and energy efficiency, making them ideal for laptops, ultrabooks, and other portable devices. They come in various form factors, including 2.5-inch, M.2, and PCIe cards, and are favored for their reliability, quiet operation, and reduced heat generation
