- Bluesky has gained a heavyweight user in former US President Barack Obama.
- Obama's first post on the platform celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
- Bluesky has been gaining users from rival platforms, such as X, due to Musk's political ties and controversies.
Bluesky, the alternative to Elon Musk’s X, has just gained a heavyweight user: former US President Barack Obama. Initially, there were doubts about whether the @barackobama.bsky.social account truly belonged to the ex-president, with users questioning its legitimacy. However, a Bluesky executive confirmed that the account is indeed authentic.
Obama’s first post on the platform celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a plan he created during his time in the White House. While he has joined Bluesky, Obama still maintains accounts on other platforms, including X and Facebook, where he has over 130.6 million and 55 million followers, respectively.
Elon Musk’s X has been losing users to rival platforms ever since Musk acquired it. However, it was when the current owner of the platform aligned himself with President Donald Trump that X, along with almost all of Musk’s associated companies, suffered significant blows.
Tesla, for instance, has experienced considerable declines in sales and faced protests in various countries due to Musk’s political ties. Many analysts believe that this association is tarnishing the brand’s reputation, despite Musk’s denial, and Trump’s support, which now considers any act against the brand as “domestic terrorism.”
In addition to the damage to Musk’s brand image, X has been consistently losing users, with waves of new users migrating to alternative platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky.
