The Next Chapter of Rainbow Six Siege Launched

Today at the much-anticipated

Siege X Showcase
, Ubisoft pulled back the curtain on the next evolution of Rainbow Six Siege. Mark your calendars for June 10, because that’s when we’ll see the launch of
Siege X
, packed with thrilling new features like the dynamic 6v6 game mode, Dual Front. But that’s not all—this update promises a slew of foundational upgrades, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, and revamped player protection systems. The Cherry on top? Players can dive into this tactical action for free. And if you’re eager to get a taste of what Dual Front has to offer, a closed beta is currently live on PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S until March 19. Let’s break down what you can expect.

Introducing Dual Front

Get ready for some serious tactical action in

Dual Front
, which takes place on a brand-new map called
District
. This mode pits two teams of six Operators against each other as they battle to secure enemy sectors while defending their own. With a curated roster of 35 Operators that rotates every season, players will have plenty of options to mix and match strategies.

During matches, two objective points are active at all times—one in each team’s lane. Your mission? Plant a sabotage kit (think of it as a defuser) in the opposing team’s objective room and defend it to capture the sector. But don’t let your guard down; you need to protect your own sector, or your opponents might just beat you to the punch!

For the first time, attacking and defending Operators can work together on the same team, opening up a whole new realm of gadget combinations and tactical possibilities. And guess what? Respawning is now part of the game, which means players can experiment with strategies and adapt mid-match. The expansive District map is brimming with new angles and flanking opportunities, plus a neutral sector that invites players to roam freely, set up ambushes, or reinforce teammates. And keep an eye out for time-limited assignments that pop up in the neutral zone; completing these can give your team a crucial edge.

Core Improvements to Siege

The upgrades don’t stop with Dual Front. The

Siege X
update will significantly enhance the core 5v5 mode too. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s coming your way:

Modernized Maps
: Expect new lighting and shadows (yes, your own shadow can give away your position!), double the texture resolution, and an optional 4K texture download for PC players. Five maps—Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe—will receive these upgrades at launch, with three more modernizations coming each season.
Enhanced Destructibility
: The game’s hallmark environmental destructibility is getting a makeover. Think red gas pipes that can spew fire and explode, or fire extinguishers that release smoke to disorient nearby Operators.
Rappel Navigation Revamp
: Players can now move fluidly and sprint horizontally while rappelling, making those daring escapes or tactical maneuvers even more thrilling.
Audio Overhaul
: A complete rework of audio propagation will help players gather Intel on enemy movements and actions, making every sound count.
New Communication Tools
: A revamped communication wheel will facilitate non-verbal callouts, allowing for smarter strategizing with teammates.
Weapon Inspection
: Get a closer look at your weapon’s cosmetic customization during matches.
Pick and Ban System
: This new system for Ranked matches allows teams to make simultaneous choices, speeding up the process and encouraging strategic adaptability.
Onboarding Flow
: New tutorials and skill training will help newcomers master the basics before diving into competitive matches.

Player Protection Comes First

Creating a safe and fair gaming environment is a top priority for the Siege team, and they are ramping up their efforts against cheating and toxicity. Over the course of 2024, they’ve tripled the size of their anti-cheat team, eliminated several cheat makers, and improved response times by a whopping 150%. As a result, cheat reports have dropped by 30% compared to last year.

With Siege X, all their anti-cheat tools—like Cheat Detection and Mousetrap—will come together under one banner:

R6 ShieldGuard
. This unified system will introduce new solutions, including live security updates that don’t require downtime, making it harder for cheats to thrive. Plus, anti-toxicity initiatives like the Reputation System will impact players’ access to certain playlists, ensuring a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Free Access for Everyone

Starting with Season 2 of Year 10 (currently in Season 1—Operation Prep Phase), Rainbow Six Siege will be free to access. Players can jump in with 10 Operators available right off the bat and expand their roster to 26 through in-game progression. Free access will include many of the more approachable modes, like Unranked, Quick Play, and, of course, Dual Front.

If you decide to upgrade to premium access, you’ll unlock Ranked mode and the Siege Cup—provided you hit player level 50—and gain immediate access to more Operators. And for those of you who already own Rainbow Six Siege, rest assured you’ll keep all your unlocked content and receive exclusive veteran rewards as a thank you for being part of the Siege community for the past decade.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, XBOX One, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and Epic Games, as well as through a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription. So gear up, strategize, and get ready for the action-packed future of Siege!
