The Future of Rainbow Six Siege Launched
Today, the gaming world got a thrilling sneak peek into the next chapter of Rainbow Six Siege at the Siege X Showcase. Set to launch on June 10, Siege X is bringing a fresh twist to the battlefield with a brand-new 6v6 game mode called Dual Front. But that’s not all—players can expect a slew of foundational upgrades, including stunning visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, improved rappel mechanics, and revamped player protection systems. And here’s the kicker: you can dive into all this excitement for free! Yes, you read that right. Starting now and running through March 19, you can jump into the closed beta for Dual Front on PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S. Curious about how to get in? Let’s break it down.
What’s New in Dual Front?
Dual Front introduces players to a brand-new battleground known as District. In this mode, two teams of six Operators face off, each tasked with attacking enemy sectors while protecting their own. Sounds intense, right? You’ll get to choose from a carefully curated roster of 35 Operators—both Attackers and Defenders. These will rotate twice a season, keeping things fresh and exciting.
In each match, two objective points are active simultaneously—one in each team’s lane. The goal? Plant a sabotage kit (think of it as a defuser) in the opposing team’s objective room and defend it to capture the sector. But don’t let your guard down! If you neglect your own sector, your opponents might just outpace you and snatch victory from your hands.
For the first time, you can mix and match attacking and defending Operators on the same team, opening up a world of tactical possibilities. Plus, with respawning now a feature, you’ll have even more chances to change your strategy mid-game. The expansive map, larger than what you might be used to in Siege, is brimming with new angles to explore and flanking opportunities. There’s even a neutral sector between the two lanes where you can set traps or reposition to support your teammates. Oh, and keep an eye out for time-limited assignments that pop up in this area—they could give your team a crucial edge if completed.
Get Ready for Siege X Core Improvements
The upgrades don’t stop with Dual Front; they extend to the core 5v5 game mode as well. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s coming:
–
Modernized Maps
: Expect new lighting and shadows that even include your own (so don’t get too comfy hiding in the shadows!). With double the texture resolution and an optional 4K texture download for PC players, the game is about to look better than ever. Five maps—Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe—are getting a facelift, with three more each season.–
Enhanced Destructibility
: Get ready for new tactical opportunities with destructible materials. Damaging red gas pipes will unleash a jet of fire, while fire extinguishers can create a thick smoke cloud that disorients nearby Operators.–
Improved Rappel Mechanics
: Rappelling will feel more fluid than ever thanks to new motion capture techniques, allowing for horizontal sprinting and corner maneuvers.–
Audio Overhaul
: The sound design is getting a complete rework, enhancing audio propagation and reverberation. This means you’ll have a better sense of where your enemies are lurking.–
New Communication Tools
: A revamped communication wheel will make non-verbal callouts a breeze, helping you strategize with your team without needing to spam the chat.–
Weapon Inspect Feature
: Ever wanted to admire your weapon’s customization mid-match? Now you can!–
Streamlined Ranked Play
: A new pick-and-ban system for Ranked matches will speed up the process and keep things strategic when switching sides.–
Onboarding Improvements
: New tutorials and skill training will help newcomers get up to speed and ready for competitive play.Prioritizing Player Protection
Creating a safe and fair gaming environment has always been a top priority for the Siege team. They’ve been hard at work, tripling their anti-cheat team and significantly reducing cheat reports over the past year. With Siege X, all their anti-cheat tools will be unified under the new name: R6 ShieldGuard. This will not only streamline existing initiatives but also introduce live security updates to combat cheating in real-time. Plus, a new Reputation System will help weed out toxic players, ensuring a better experience for everyone.
Free Access for All
In an exciting move, Rainbow Six Siege will be free to access starting with Season 2 of Year 10. That means new players can jump in with 10 Operators right off the bat, and can unlock up to 26 through in-game progression. Free access includes many of the more approachable modes, like Unranked, Quick Play, and, of course, Dual Front.
If you’re a seasoned player, don’t worry—you’ll keep all your unlocked content and even receive exclusive veteran rewards as a thank you for being part of the Siege journey over the past decade.
Rainbow Six Siege is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, XBOX One, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and Epic Games, as well as through a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription. So, are you ready to dive back into the fray?
