Intel Names New CEO: Lip-Bu Tan Takes the Helm
In a significant shakeup at the top, Intel Corporation has announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as its new chief executive officer, effective March 18. Tan steps in to replace the interim co-CEOs, David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus, who have been steering the ship during this transitional period. What’s more, Tan will also rejoin the Intel board of directors after taking a brief hiatus last August.
Zinsner will continue to serve as executive vice president and chief financial officer, while Johnston Holthaus will remain at the helm of Intel Products. Frank D. Yeary, who held the role of interim executive chair during the CEO search, will resume his position as the independent chair of the board once Tan officially takes over.

Yeary had high praise for Tan, calling him an “exceptional leader” with a wealth of experience in the semiconductor industry. “His deep relationships across the product and Foundry ecosystems and proven track record of creating shareholder value is exactly what Intel needs right now,” Yeary remarked.

Tan isn’t just a name in the tech world; he’s a powerhouse with over 20 years of experience in semiconductors and software. Prior to this, he served as CEO of Cadence Design Systems from 2009 to 2021, where he led a remarkable transformation that more than doubled the company’s revenue and saw stock prices soar by over 3,200%. He also has a solid background in venture capital as a founding managing partner of Walden Catalyst Ventures and holds board positions at Credo Technology Group and Schneider Electric. His academic credentials are impressive too, with a Bachelor of Science in physics from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, a Master of Science in nuclear engineering from MIT, and an MBA from the University of SAN Francisco. To top it off, he received the prestigious Robert N. Noyce Award from the Semiconductor Industry Association in 2022.
