- Two more years of updates for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold owners
- Extended support to match five years of system updates
- Potential impact on sales of newer devices
Google has a little Christmas gift for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold owners. Even though these models were already off the list for future Android updates, Google has decided to offer two more years of updates, extending their support.
Originally, these models were launched with three years of Android updates and five years of security updates. While they were still on the list to receive security updates, Google has decided to extend the support to match the five years of system updates.
The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro were released in October 2021, with Android 15 being off the list of available versions. However, with this news, those who have these devices can keep them updated for a little longer.
Interestingly, this move may have an impact on Google’s sales of the latest devices. Users may now have fewer reasons to upgrade to newer versions.
It’s worth noting that since the arrival of the Pixel 8 last year, Google has been promising seven years of Android updates and security updates for all its devices, extending their support.
