Microsoft has taken action against a group in Egypt that was involved in phishing scams. The company has confirmed that it shut down over 240 websites associated with the group, known as “Abanoub Nady,” which was using Microsoft’s infrastructure for their activities.
According to Microsoft, this group was responsible for developing and selling phishing kits that could be used for large-scale attacks under the brand name “ONNX.” These kits consisted of pre-built web pages and panels that allowed other attackers to launch their own phishing attacks on unsuspecting victims.
The promotion of ONNX primarily took place on Telegram groups dedicated to the sale of such content. However, the group operated discreetly in the background. These phishing kits were sold for prices ranging from $150 to $550, depending on the features offered.
In response to Microsoft’s investigation, the company has disabled multiple websites used by the group to distribute their malicious content. Many of these sites were hosted on Microsoft’s own infrastructure, making it crucial for the company to take swift action.
Phishing scams continue to be a significant threat in the digital landscape. These scams often involve tricking individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card details, by posing as a trustworthy entity. By shutting down these websites, Microsoft has taken a crucial step in protecting users from falling victim to such scams.
It’s worth noting that phishing attacks are not limited to a specific region or group. They can affect anyone, anywhere. Therefore, it’s essential for individuals to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their personal information.
Microsoft’s efforts to combat phishing highlight the importance of collaboration between technology companies and law enforcement agencies in tackling cybercrime. By sharing information and working together, we can create a safer online environment for everyone.
So, the next time you receive an email or visit a website that seems suspicious, remember to think twice before clicking on any links or sharing any personal information. Stay safe online!
