Google may be working on a new feature for its native Google Messages app. This potential update could include a dedicated backup system to help users safeguard their messages. Currently, Google allows users to back up their SMS messages through their Google accounts. However, recent versions of the app suggest that the company is revamping this system.
With the new backup system, users will be able to easily back up their messages and enjoy some improvements along the way. According to the text found in recent versions of the app, this system could support end-to-end encryption, providing users with enhanced privacy and security.
Additionally, the text also indicates a stronger connection between backups and Google accounts, where storage space may be allocated for saved messages, including any images or videos sent through the system.
Users will have full control over whether they want to enable or disable this backup system. If they choose to disable it, their data will only be saved locally without any backups. However, this action will also remove any existing backups associated with their Google account and the messages within.
In the app settings, users may have the option to choose to back up only when connected to Wi-Fi networks to avoid using mobile data for heavier backups.
Currently, this feature is still in development, and it is unknown when it will be available to end users. However, since it is already present in the app’s source code, it is highly likely that it will be released soon for testing.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting potential addition to Google Messages!
