Airvine’s WaveCore: Breaking Through Concrete Barriers for Better Connectivity
Imagine you’re in a bustling office building, trying to get a reliable internet connection to a conference room that’s tucked away behind a thick concrete wall. You know the drill—literally. The only way to bridge that connectivity gap is usually through a tedious process of drilling holes, securing permits, and hoping the building’s infrastructure doesn’t throw any surprises your way. But what if there was a better way? Enter Airvine and its newly launched WaveCore product line, designed to make those concrete barriers a mere inconvenience rather than a major roadblock.
Airvine is stepping into the spotlight as the first company to roll out a multi-Gigabit-speed wireless backhaul system for indoor connectivity. The WaveCore system is a game changer for anyone who has ever faced the frustration of connecting spaces separated by concrete. With its sleek point-to-point bridge setup, the system consists of two nodes that can be installed on either side of a wall or ceiling, measuring just 10.1″ x 2.7″ x 10.3″. It’s like giving a high-five to the wall instead of drilling through it.
So, what’s the magic behind WaveCore? This system operates as a point-to-point (PTP) layer 2 Ethernet bridge, which is just a fancy way of saying it creates a direct connection between two points, allowing data to flow seamlessly. It can run on Power over Ethernet (PoE) or a 12V DC input, making it versatile enough for various setups. During testing, the results were impressive: a 3 Gbps connection was achieved through 8 inches of concrete over a 54-foot distance, and a whopping 4 Gbps through a 12-inch wall in a garage. For those of us who’ve spent hours waiting for a Wi-Fi signal to stabilize, you can appreciate just how significant that is.
Concrete walls are a common feature in commercial real estate (CRE), often serving as load-bearing structures or protective barriers for critical areas like server rooms. This is where the WaveCore shines. Traditional methods of connecting these spaces usually involve core drilling—a process that can take time and money, not to mention the headaches of dealing with building codes and inspections. The WaveCore promises a much simpler solution.
Take fire control rooms, for example. These are often located in the basement, surrounded by thick concrete, and need reliable connectivity to communicate with first responders. With 3G networks being phased out and 5G struggling to penetrate those formidable walls, building owners have been left in a bind. The WaveCore offers a way to establish that crucial link without the hassle of drilling, providing a faster and cheaper alternative.
Vivek Ragavan, CEO of Airvine, emphasizes the significance of this breakthrough. “We have proven with customers for more than a year now that the WaveTunnel provides cost-effective Gigabit-speed connectivity in MDUs, factories, warehouses, conference centers, and other large properties,” he shared. “However, we literally kept running into concrete barriers. The WaveCore system surmounts these obstacles and enables us to connect wirelessly any building with any floor plan anywhere.” It’s a bold claim, but after hearing it, one can’t help but wonder about the possibilities for businesses and facilities that have long struggled with connectivity issues.
During a recent trial at one of their facilities, JP Plouffe, Regional Vice President of CSI, was taken aback by the WaveCore’s performance. “We were amazed by the ability of the WaveCore bridge to blow through several inches of concrete with a multi-Gbps signal,” he noted. “We can see where the WaveCore would save us considerable time and money when we need to connect adjacent rooms or areas separated by such a barrier.”
The WaveCore isn’t just a standalone product; it’s part of a larger ecosystem managed by the VineSuite software platform, which simplifies network setup and operation. It’s an All-in-One solution that promises to redefine how we think about indoor connectivity.
As we move into an increasingly digital world, the need for reliable and fast connectivity is more critical than ever. With innovations like Airvine’s WaveCore, we might just be on the brink of a new era where concrete walls no longer stand in the way of progress. So, the next time you’re faced with a connectivity challenge, just remember: sometimes, the best solutions are the ones that don’t require a drill.
