EK, the renowned provider of computer cooling solutions, is introducing a groundbreaking water block specifically designed for the LGA 1700 socket and optimized for delidded Intel Core CPUs. This innovative product boasts significant improvements that cater to the needs of 14th-generation CPUs and stands apart from the previously released Intel Direct Die water block, as it incorporates a purpose-developed cold plate, cooling fin structure, and mounting mechanism.

One of the key features of EK’s latest water block is the implementation of standoffs positioned at the four corners, ensuring optimal contact with the CPU. This design eliminates any concerns regarding applying excessive or insufficient pressure on the bare CPU die, similar to the AM5 Direct Die water block. Additionally, the EK-Matrix7 compatibility of this water block allows for easier loop planning and precise results, with the product’s height and port distance managed in 7 mm increments.

Dubbed the EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 Core Edition, this new direct die LGA 1700 water block is meticulously crafted to extract every ounce of performance from the 14th-generation Intel Core CPUs. Its top features a transparent glass-like acrylic material with captivating D-RGB illumination behind it. The window is adorned with aluminum bars that traverse its surface, interrupted only by two G1/4″ extenders. These extenders, which are standard Torque micro extenders, can be replaced with other products from the EK-Quantum Torque Micro series, such as extenders with different finishes or HDP and HDC fittings.

Unlike its predecessor, the Velocity² Direct Die 1700 water block, the mounting mechanism of the Velocity² Direct Die – 1700 Core Edition relies on standoffs at all corners instead of the cold plate making contact with the die guard. The cold plate itself boasts a horizontally offset protruding section that effectively covers the CPU die area. The fin structure has also been optimized to direct the majority of the coolant flow over the die and disperse it to both sides. This flow optimization is achieved through a specialized jet plate and its offset slip, combined with a horizontally offset microfin array. As a result, the coolant is forced to flow over the hottest parts of the microfins, just above the CPU die area.
