Opera and Google Cloud have joined forces to integrate Google's Gemini model into Opera's Aria browser AI, allowing for personalized and high-performing browsing experiences through the use of multiple providers and LLMs.

  • Enhanced performance and personalized experiences for users
  • Utilization of multiple providers and LLMs for more efficient processing
  • Access to the latest experimental AI innovations through the AI Feature Drops program

Opera, the renowned browser innovator, has announced a new collaboration with Google Cloud that will see the integration of Gemini models into its Aria browser AI. Aria, powered by Opera’s multi-LLM Composer AI engine, allows the company to curate personalized experiences for its users based on their individual needs. What sets Opera’s Aria browser AI apart is its ability to utilize multiple providers and LLMs. The Composer AI engine intelligently processes user intent and determines which model to use for specific tasks. With the integration of Google’s Gemini model, Opera can now offer its users the most up-to-date information with enhanced performance.

The partnership between Opera and Google spans over two decades, and this collaboration marks a deeper expansion into the field of generative AI to enhance Opera’s suite of browser AI services. Per Wetterdal, EVP Partnerships at Opera, expressed excitement about the continued cooperation between the two companies. Eva Fors, Managing Director of Google Cloud Nordic Region, echoed this sentiment, stating that they are thrilled to elevate their longstanding partnership by powering Opera’s AI innovation within the browser space.

Opera has been exploring the potential of browser AI for over a year now. Currently, all flagship browsers, including the gaming browser Opera GX, offer access to the new browser AI. To further advance its AI capabilities and stay at the forefront of innovation, Opera recently established a green energy-powered AI data cluster in Iceland, equipped with nVidia DGX supercomputing. This facility enables Opera to rapidly expand its AI program and host the necessary computing resources in-house. In line with its commitment to innovation, Opera also introduced the AI Feature Drops program, allowing early adopters to test the latest experimental AI innovations in the Opera One Developer version of the browser.

The most recent AI Feature Drop is a result of the collaboration with Google Cloud. Aria, in Opera One Developer, now offers free image generation capabilities using the Imagen 2 model on Vertex AI. Additionally, Opera’s AI can now read out responses in a conversational-like manner, thanks to Google’s groundbreaking text-to-audio model. Eva Fors emphasized Google’s belief in an open future for AI, providing organizations with access to the best infrastructure, AI products, platforms, and foundation models to empower them in their generative AI endeavors.

With this collaboration between Opera and Google Cloud, users can expect a more personalized and cutting-edge browsing experience, fueled by the integration of advanced AI models and technologies.
