AAEON has released the de next-TGU8-EZBOX, the world's smallest edge PC with an embedded Intel Core processor, featuring a fanless heat dissipation system and a wide range of connectivity options, making it an ideal choice for edge computing and IoT gateway solutions in compact spaces.
- Compact size makes it ideal for edge computing and IoT gateway solutions
- Fanless heat dissipation system ensures low noise operation and protection against dust
- Wide range of connectivity options, including high-speed interfaces and expansion options
AAEON, the manufacturer of single board computers, has launched its latest innovation in the form of the de next-TGU8-EZBOX. Building upon the success of their previous form factor, which boasted the world’s smallest single board computers hosting Intel Core and AMD Ryzen V2000 Series processors, AAEON has once again pushed the boundaries of compact design.
Measuring a mere 95.5 mm x 69.5 mm x 42.5 mm with a heatsink (or 95.5 mm x 69.5 mm x 45.4 mm with an active cooler), the de next-TGU8-EZBOX takes the crown as the world’s smallest edge PC with an embedded Intel Core processor. Its diminutive size makes it an ideal choice for edge computing and IoT gateway solutions, particularly in environments where space is at a premium.
One of the standout features of the de next-TGU8-EZBOX is its fanless heat dissipation system, which not only ensures low noise operation but also provides protection against dust. These advantages make it an attractive option for customers in industries such as digital signage and industrial applications.
Despite its compact form, the de next-TGU8-EZBOX doesn’t skimp on connectivity options. It retains many of the I/O features found in its board counterparts, including multiple high-speed interfaces for exceptional industrial-grade performance. Conveniently grouped together are two LAN ports capable of operating at both 2.5GbE and GbE speeds, along with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and one HDMI 1.4b port, ensuring easy access to interfaces during operation.
To facilitate efficient data processing, the de next-TGU8-EZBOX comes equipped with 16 GB of onboard LPDDR4x system memory. Additionally, it offers expansion options through an M.2 2280 M-Key, allowing for flexible storage configurations to meet various application requirements.
In terms of compatibility, the de next-TGU8-EZBOX supports a wide range of operating systems, including Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04.4 (Kernel 5.13). This ensures seamless integration into existing IT infrastructures and development environments, making it a hassle-free choice for users.
Since the launch of the first de next-TGU8 board, AAEON has continued to expand its product line to create a comprehensive ecosystem. This ecosystem includes single boards, dedicated expansion modules, and now, a system-level solution in the form of the de next-TGU8-EZBOX. While its compact size may limit expansion options compared to larger Mini PCs, AAEON compensates for this by offering a catalog of expansion modules compatible with both the de next-TGU8 and de next-V2K8 single boards.
For instance, the PER-T642 expansion module provides support for AI acceleration or Wi-Fi modules when used in conjunction with the de next board series. On the other hand, the PER-T643 combines AI acceleration with 4G support. For industrial control tasks, the PER-R41P offers PCIe expansion alongside a Riser Kit, enabling additional interfaces such as storage, graphic capture cards, and Ethernet.

Technology Explained
M.2: M.2, also known as Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF), is a computer expansion card format that is designed to replace the outdated mSATA standard. It is thinner and longer than mSATA, which gives it a much higher data transfer rate. The M.2 format measures 22mm in width and can measure up to 110mm in length. It uses the M-key and B-key connectors to interface with PC host systems, and can connect to both SATA III and PCIe for data transfer. Due to its small size, M.2 is often used for ultra-slim laptops and netbooks, as well as in embedded SSDs for tablets and other mobile devices. It is also becoming increasingly popular in the desktop computer industry, thanks to its compactness and fast transfer speeds. This makes M.2 ideal for gaming PCs, workstations, and other demanding applications that require high levels of data throughput.

PCIe: PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard for connecting components such as graphics cards, sound cards, and network cards to a motherboard. It is the most widely used interface in the computer industry today, and is used in both desktop and laptop computers. PCIe is capable of providing up to 16 times the bandwidth of the older PCI standard, allowing for faster data transfer speeds and improved performance. It is also used in a variety of other applications, such as storage, networking, and communications. PCIe is an essential component of modern computing, and its applications are only expected to grow in the future.
