In a thrilling reunion, the Lee family is set to take the streets by storm once again in the upcoming release of Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. This time, they are joined by their cousin, Sonny Lee, who is ready to prove his mettle as a formidable fighter. Sonny, known for his unorthodox fighting style, unleashes a relentless barrage of punches and kicks to establish his own power in the family lineage. Originally introduced in Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone, Sonny Lee makes his triumphant return in Double Dragon Gaiden as part of the free Sacred Reunion DLC, which will be available on both PC and consoles.

While Billy and Jimmy Lee have honed their skills in the art of Sōsetsuken since childhood, Sonny has taken a slightly different path. Although he shares the same training as his cousins, Sonny’s carefree nature often leaves him struggling to keep up. However, he compensates for this by infusing his own creative flair into the ancient technique, leading him to wander the streets in search of worthy opponents to put his new moves to the test.

Joining Sonny in the Sacred Reunion DLC are two additional fighters: the enigmatic assassin Ranzou and another mysterious combatant yet to be revealed. Ranzou, a young ninja hailing from the secretive organization known as The Secret Society of Ninjas, finds himself sent to New York as a means to prove his abilities. Together with these new characters, the DLC will introduce Survival mode, Versus mode, and online co-op, adding even more excitement to the game.

Sonny’s fighting style sets him apart as a rushdown/offensive warrior. One of his signature moves is an action attack reminiscent of a breakdance maneuver, which covers threats from all directions while propelling him forward. Despite his roots in Sōsetsuken, Sonny’s character is designed to be distinct from Billy and Jimmy, featuring a range of eccentric moves that reflect his role as the family outcast. This unique approach to combat not only adds depth to Sonny’s personality but also allows him to shine brightly within the game.

One of his special moves, Feigning Dragon, involves Sonny feigning a retreat before launching a flurry of punches and kicks, knocking enemies back with great force. This aerial move can be seamlessly incorporated into combos or used as a powerful finishing move, but it leaves Sonny vulnerable upon landing.

Another notable move in Sonny’s arsenal is Dragon’s Regret, which enables him to unleash a rapid series of punches. Activating this move allows Sonny to traverse the screen while attacking, and by holding the attack button in the opposite direction when the move concludes, he can deliver a final punch in that direction. Dragon’s Regret serves as an excellent combo starter and extender, further enhancing Sonny’s versatility in combat. Lastly, we have the Sleeping Dragon, a swift jump kick followed by an elbow drop that knocks down nearby enemies. This move covers a significant area and can be utilized as both an anti-air attack and a means to extend combos.
