Intel's new Core i7-14790F CPU, exclusive to China, offers similar speed to the Core i7-14700K at a lower cost, with 16 cores, a boost clock of 5.4GHz, and 36MB of L3 cache, making it a strong contender for budget-conscious consumers and gamers.
- Comparable speed to the Core i7-14700K at a lower cost
- Reduced power limit of 219W, resulting in lower energy consumption and cost
- Performs on par with the Core i7-14700K in real-world gaming scenarios
Intel has recently released the Core i7-14790F, a China-exclusive CPU that offers comparable speed to the Core i7-14700k at a lower cost. With 16 cores (8P + 8E), a boost clock of 5.4GHz, and 36MB of L3 cache, this processor packs quite a punch. While it does have fewer E-Cores and slightly lower boost clocks compared to the 14700K, it makes up for it with increased cache capacity.
One of the standout features of the Core i7-14790F is its reduced power limit of 219W, which is significantly lower than the 253W power limit of the 14700K. This not only helps in reducing energy consumption but also contributes to the lower cost of the CPU. In fact, the Core i7-14790F is priced at 17% less than its counterpart, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.
But how does the Core i7-14790F perform in real-world scenarios? Testing conducted by mydrivers reveals that this CPU is not only 7% faster than the Core i5-14600k but also performs on par with the Core i7-14700K across a range of 12 games. In popular titles such as Horizon, Far Cry 5 & 6, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Hogwarts Legacy, the 14790F even outperforms the 14700K. However, in other games, both chips perform similarly or the 14700K takes a slight lead, resulting in a balanced overall score.
It’s worth noting that the Core i7-14790F is Intel’s second China-exclusive 14th Gen CPU, following the release of the Core i5-14490F (which is essentially a 14600K with fewer E-cores). Both these processors feature a locked multiplier and lack an integrated GPU. Additionally, they have a slightly lower “PL2” power limit compared to their standard counterparts. However, when it comes to gaming workloads, the absence of E-cores doesn’t have a significant impact as games primarily rely on P cores and cache. As a result, the Core i7-14790F performs just as well, if not better, than its global variants in most gaming scenarios.
Overall, the Intel Core i7-14790F offers an enticing combination of performance and affordability. With its impressive specifications and comparable speed to the Core i7-14700K, this China-exclusive CPU is certainly worth considering for gamers and power users alike.
