Intel has launched its 14th Generation desktop processors, the "Raptor Lake Refresh," offering improved core count and clock speeds for a seamless upgrade experience for users of 12th and 13th-generation processors.

  • Compatible with LGA 1700 socket
  • Flagship model Intel Core i9-14900K has 24 cores and 32 threads
  • Improved clock speed of 6.0 GHz

Intel has officially launched its 14th Generation desktop processors, known as “Raptor Lake Refresh.” These CPUs are designed to provide a seamless upgrade path for users of the 12th and 13th-generation processors, as they are compatible with the LGA 1700 socket. However, it’s worth noting that these processors will be the last in the LGA-1700 series.

The flagship model in this lineup is the Intel Core i9-14900k, which boasts an impressive configuration of 24 cores and 32 threads. This processor sets a new benchmark with its hybrid architecture, combining 8 Performance cores and 16 Efficient cores. While the core count doesn’t surpass that of the 13th Gen series, the notable feature here is the improved clock speed of 6.0 GHz, a 200 MHz upgrade compared to its predecessor. It’s worth mentioning that this is the same specification as the Core i9-13900KS, which was a special edition processor aimed at overclockers.

While the Core i9-14900K and Core i5-14600k primarily focus on enhanced clock speeds, the Core i7-14700k stands out by introducing a higher core count of 20 cores. This SKU combines 8 P-Cores with 12 E-Cores, a configuration previously seen in the mobile 13th Gen Core-HX series. The Core i7-14700K also boasts a higher clock speed of 5.6 GHz, a 200 MHz improvement over its predecessor.

The 14th Gen Core series CPUs are now available, although the pricing may be slightly higher than initially indicated by Intel’s slides. This is because Intel’s Recommended Consumer Price (RCP) is typically intended for bulk orders of 1000 units, allowing for potential price adjustments. The base price for the 14600KF model starts at $304, while the flagship 14900K model is offered at $599.

In January, Intel plans to launch the remaining SKUs known as the non-K models, which have a power rating of 65W and below. It’s important to note that the K-series processors are specifically designed for overclocking.

Overall, Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh processors bring notable improvements in core count and clock speeds, ensuring a smooth upgrade experience for users. With their hybrid architecture and enhanced performance, these CPUs are set to deliver impressive performance in desktop computing.
