Intel's 14th Gen Core i9-14900K has had its benchmarks leaked, revealing modest 5% performance gains over its predecessor, the 13th Gen i9-13900K, with no significant changes in cores, lithography, or chipset.

  • Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake-S Refresh is expected to be released later this month.
  • The 14th Gen Core i9-14900K offers modest performance gains of 2-5% in multi-threaded benchmarks.
  • Intel's focus with this release seems to be on refining and optimizing their existing technology.

Intel’s latest generation of processors, the 14th Gen Core i9-14900k, has recently had its benchmarks leaked, revealing a modest 5% boost over its predecessor, the 13th Gen i9-13900K. While the announcement of the Meteor Lake family garnered much attention, the 14th Gen Desktop reveal was relatively quiet, and for good reason. These new processors are based on the same silicon as their Raptor Lake predecessors, with no significant changes in cores, lithography, or chipset.

The benchmarks of the Core i9-14900K have been posted on the Chiphell forums, allowing us to compare its performance to the 13900K. In multi-threaded benchmarks, the 14900K only offers gains of 2% and 5% in R23 and R24, respectively. Previous versions of the processor showed larger double-digit gains, but this is likely due to the faster memory used in those tests. The 14900K was paired with DDR5-7600 CL34 memory, while the sample used for comparison was paired with DDR5-6400 CL37.

The single-core benchmark shows an even smaller difference between the two processors, with deltas of just 1% to 3%. This can be attributed to the fact that the core architectures and cache remain unchanged, with the only discrepancy being the core clocks.

Intel’s 14th Gen Raptor Lake-S Refresh, which includes only K series chips, is expected to be released later this month. Retailers have already listed these processors, and it seems that the pricing will be the same as existing SKUs.

While these benchmarks may not showcase a significant leap in performance compared to the previous generation, it’s important to note that Intel’s focus with this release seems to be on refining and optimizing their existing technology rather than introducing groundbreaking advancements. This approach is not uncommon in the tech industry, as incremental improvements can still provide tangible benefits to users.

It will be interesting to see how the market responds to the 14th Gen Core i9-14900K and whether the modest performance gains will be enough to entice consumers to upgrade. As always, it’s advisable to consider individual needs and use cases before making any purchasing decisions.
