The Story Behind La Quimera
La Quimera isn’t just another shooter; it’s Reburn’s first original video game IP, crafted by the talented Nicolas Winding Refn (known for films like Drive and The Neon Demon) alongside E.J.A. Warren. Set in the fictional mega-city of Nuevo Caracas, the game follows a down-on-their-luck private military company (PMC) caught in a whirlwind of conflict among rival factions and shadowy corporations. As mystical events unfold, the line between reality and illusion starts to blur. With exosuits provided by a mysterious benefactor, players will engage in intense combat, wielding high-tech gadgets and superhuman strength to outsmart their enemies.
A Team Built on Resilience
Behind La Quimera is a dedicated team of developers, including veterans from the Metro series. Project lead Oleksandr Kostiuk, who has experience with titles like Metro 2033, Last Light, and Exodus, is steering this ambitious project. Lymar, who has been in the gaming industry since 2006 and previously directed 4A Games Ukraine, noted the challenges faced by the studio in recent years. He shared, “As a development studio operating out of Ukraine, the last several years have been extremely challenging in terms of bringing any artistic creation to life while contending with the realities of war and dramatic shifts in the games industry.” Despite these hurdles, the team remained focused on their passion: creating immersive, story-driven experiences.
Lymar also expressed gratitude for the support received along the way, saying, “Our work wouldn’t be possible without the bravery and sacrifice of those defending Ukraine, and we’re profoundly grateful for their strength and resilience.”
