Microsoft updates AI tool Copilot to warn against illegal Windows activation methods and cautions against purchasing activation keys from unauthorized sources.

  • Microsoft has updated Copilot models to no longer suggest illegal ways to activate Windows
  • Copilot now states that activating Windows through unofficial sources is considered illegal and directs users to Microsoft support for more information or to purchase a legitimate key
  • The only legal way to activate Windows is by using a key directly acquired from Microsoft or provided by an official system manufacturer

Just a few days ago, news started circulating about Microsoft’s AI tool, Copilot, suggesting illegal ways for users to activate Windows. It’s quite an interesting case considering that the platform itself is from Microsoft. But it seems like Microsoft is paying attention to these reports. After the issue came to light, Microsoft appears to have updated the Copilot models. Now, when you ask the system the same question, the response is slightly different.

Previously, Copilot would point users to a well-known script that was used for illegally activating Windows, even providing the steps to do so. But today, the response has been updated. Copilot now states that activating Windows through unofficial sources is considered illegal and violates the terms of service. It also directs users to Microsoft support for more information on system activation or to purchase a legitimate key.

While Microsoft doesn’t seem overly concerned about piracy on Windows, it becomes a different story when their own systems actively recommend illegal methods.

In addition, it’s important to remember that the only legal way to activate Windows is by using a key directly acquired from Microsoft or provided by an official system manufacturer. There are websites out there promoting the sale of Windows and Office activation keys at significantly reduced prices, claiming they are legitimate. But in reality, they are not.

These sites are simply trying to profit by misleading users with false claims, pretending that their keys are legitimate. In truth, these keys are considered illegal and, in some cases, can be even more harmful than pirated activations. They may have been obtained using shady methods, such as stolen credit cards.

We strongly advise against purchasing any activation keys through these means and urge caution when encountering platforms that only seek to deceive their readers for their own profits, using false and misleading claims.
