Celebrating 15 Years of Metro
Hey everyone! Earlier this month, we hinted at wanting to share some exciting updates about our team and our future. What better occasion to do this than during the celebration of Metro’s 15th anniversary? To mark this milestone, we’ve put together a special video that takes you through our journey in the Metro universe, all thanks to the incredible support from our community—yes, that means you!
Metro Turns 15: A Legacy to Be Proud Of
The legacy of Metro over the past decade and a half is something we at 4A Games hold close to our hearts. It all began 20 years ago with the founding of our studio, fueled by Dmitry Glukhovsky’s gripping online novel. This inspiration led us to create our debut title, Metro 2033, and the partnership has blossomed ever since. Dmitry is still on board, working with us on the next Metro title—but more on that later!
It’s been a wild ride watching Metro evolve over the years. From a gripping novel to a fully-realized gaming experience, and now a global franchise with millions of players, it’s hard not to feel a sense of awe. Our community has grown alongside us, and we’re incredibly grateful for the dedicated fans who have supported us every step of the way. What we’re achieving now was just a distant dream all those years ago, and it’s all thanks to our talented developers who share the same passion for the series that you do.
Join Us in Celebrating!
This year, we’re rolling out a series of events, deals, and celebratory content across our Metro social media channels to thank you, our players, for being part of this journey. We want to hear from you! Share your favorite Metro memories with us as we celebrate Metro 15. We can’t wait to see what moments have resonated with you over the years—it’s inspiring to know you’re celebrating alongside us.
A Studio on the Move
Just like Metro, our studio has been on quite the journey too. We kicked things off in 2010 with a modest team of 60, and now we boast over 200 talented individuals across two locations. Our main hub is in Kyiv, where 150 of our developers are based, while our headquarters in Sliema, Malta, has been home to us since our expansion in 2014. We’re currently working on two major projects: the next Metro game and a brand-new, unannounced IP. It’s an exciting time for us as we push our ambitions higher than ever.
We’re also incredibly proud of our role in nurturing the Ukrainian development community. From the early days of the Metro series to our colleagues’ involvement in the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R game, we’ve witnessed a transformation from a small development scene to a vibrant one that’s stirring up the industry.
Facing Challenges Head-On
We want to assure you that work is continuing on both of our projects, despite the challenges posed by missile strikes and air-RAID sirens in Ukraine. The situation is undeniably tough, and while it’s beyond our control, we’re doing everything we can to stay safe. We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding the reveal of the next Metro title—it will be ready when it’s ready, and we can’t wait for you to experience it.
The Next Metro: A Story Born from Reality
As we mentioned in our last studio update back in 2022, the full-scale Russian invasion has profoundly impacted how we want to tell the story of the next Metro game. The realities of life for many of our developers have influenced the narrative, leading us to craft an even darker and more poignant story. Themes of conflict, the struggle for power, and the price of freedom have become increasingly relevant, and these elements will be woven into the fabric of the game.
Metro has always tackled hard-hitting, political, and emotional narratives, and we’re committed to continuing that tradition. Our collaboration with Dmitry Glukhovsky, who has bravely spoken out against the war in Ukraine, will ensure that this next chapter of Metro resonates deeply with our audience.
Thank You for Your Support
To our amazing community, thank you for your unwavering support, patience, and excitement for what’s to come. We’re grateful to have you by our side, and rest assured, despite the challenges we face, we will overcome them just as we have in the past. Here’s to the next chapter of Metro—buckle up, it’s going to be quite the ride!

Technology Explained
RAID: RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is a technology used in the computer industry to increase the performance, reliability, and storage capacity of computer systems. It works by combining multiple hard drives into a single logical unit, allowing them to be accessed as if they were a single drive. This allows for faster data access, as multiple drives can be accessed simultaneously, and for increased reliability, as data can be stored redundantly across multiple drives. RAID is commonly used in servers, workstations, and other high-performance computing systems, as well as in consumer-level storage solutions such as NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices.
