OPPO is making a big push into the world of foldable devices, and one of their latest creations may be just weeks away from an official launch. In a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, OPPO CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the company will be releasing the OPPO Find N5 in February. While no specific dates were given, this is the most concrete official confirmation we have so far about the arrival of the new device.
But that’s not all. Lau also hinted that the Find N5 will be one of the thinnest foldable devices on the market. This suggests that OPPO may have managed to use new technologies to reduce the overall thickness of the device. While no references were made to its size, the accompanying image in the post compares the device to a traditional pencil, and the resemblance is striking. A typical pencil is usually between 7-8mm thick, so if this holds true, the Find N5 will certainly be a slim device.
Currently, the HONOR Magic V3 holds the title for being the thinnest in this category, measuring just 9.2mm when folded and 4.4mm when opened. So, in order to achieve what the CEO is suggesting, the Find N5 would need to be even thinner than 4.4mm when opened.
It’s worth noting that the Find N5 announcement was made for the Chinese market. For the global market, this model will likely be released as the OnePlus Open 2. However, we may have to wait a few more weeks for that confirmation.
Exciting times lie ahead for OPPO and foldable device enthusiasts. With the Find N5’s potential to be one of the thinnest foldable devices on the market, it’s clear that OPPO is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of smartphone design. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new device.
