A Heartfelt Farewell to Ted Price
Before diving into the bittersweet news of Ted Price’s long-planned retirement, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who has reached out to Insomniac Games during the recent devastating fires in Los Angeles. The impact on our community has been profound, and we’re committed to supporting each other and keeping the lines of communication open with Sony Interactive Entertainment to ensure everyone affected has the resources they need.
Now, let’s talk about Ted. Honestly, just typing the words “Ted is retiring” brings a wave of emotion. For those of us who’ve had the privilege of working alongside him—Chad, Jen, and Ryan—he’s more than just our leader; he’s a true friend. Ted has inspired us in countless ways, and his absence will be felt deeply. What makes Ted so special? It’s his knack for encouraging everyone around him to grow and thrive. He doesn’t just talk the talk; he walks the walk, setting an example in both our games and our studio culture.
As we prepare to step into Ted’s enormous shoes—seriously, they’re canoe-sized—we know we can’t simply try to replicate his style. Instead, we’ll each bring our own unique leadership approaches to the table. Still, you can bet we’ll often catch ourselves thinking, “What would Ted do?” as we navigate our new roles.
Meet the New Co-Studio Heads
Now, you might be wondering, “Who are these new faces?” Let’s introduce ourselves and share a bit about our vision for Insomniac moving forward.
Ryan Schneider, Co-Studio Head
I joined Insomniac during the golden days of the Playstation 2, starting out in marketing and communications. I quickly pivoted to become the studio’s first community director, helping to shape that role within the PlayStation ecosystem. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats—from Head of Franchise Strategy to my most recent role as Head of Brand & Leadership Strategy. My mission? To ensure that what we communicate aligns with our core beliefs and values. Outside of work, you’ll find me gaming with my family almost every night. Recently, we tackled Astro Bot and Lego Horizon Adventures—a blast, to say the least! I also enjoy cycling, whether on the road or gravel.
Jen Huang, Co-Studio Head
I’ve been part of this incredible studio for eight years, starting as CFO and Head of Finance. My heart has been in this team since day one! As part of the leadership squad, I support our development teams across all titles, overseeing everything from project planning to production strategy. Together, we’ve launched 12 games since I joined, and I’m beyond excited about the unforgettable experiences we’re crafting for players. Before Insomniac, I held senior finance roles in global tech and entertainment, where I learned the importance of driving innovations that elevate both our studio and community. When I’m not at work, I’m a big supporter of Glendale’s neighborhood libraries and love gaming with my kids. Over the holidays, I dove into Astro Bot and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered—what a ride!
Chad Dezern, Co-Studio Head
My journey with Insomniac began in 1998 after I picked up a copy of Spyro The Dragon—talk about a game that blew my mind! I was captivated by the detail and charm, and I knew I wanted to be part of that magic. Over the years, I’ve contributed to five generations of PlayStation, taking on roles from Environment Artist to Head of Creative. Now, I’m thrilled to collaborate with Ryan and Jen to continue fostering Insomniac’s legacy of creativity. Our goal is to honor what has made Insomniac special for over 30 years while also exploring new avenues for growth. We’re committed to maintaining a culture of transparency and collaboration, ensuring our workplace is one where everyone can do their best work.
What’s Next for Insomniac?
So, what does all this mean for our players and fans? Rest assured, we’ll keep delivering the games you love while prioritizing the well-being of the talented people who create them. Our vision is to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of our players.
This is a lot of news to digest, and we know Ted’s retirement marks the end of an era. He’s not just an industry legend; he’s the creative force behind iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance: Fall of Man. Ted has guided us through every PlayStation console generation, leaving an indelible mark on the gaming world.
Now, it’s our turn to carry that torch and ensure Insomniac thrives for years to come. Thanks to Ted’s incredible leadership, we’re ready for the challenge ahead.
