A bug in the Google Play Store is preventing certain system apps from receiving updates, despite being reported over a year ago.
- Google Play Store has a dedicated section for new updates
- Users can directly access the Play Store page for affected apps to update
- This bug has been reported for over a year, indicating it is a known issue
One of the ways Android users receive updates for their apps is through the Google Play Store, which has a dedicated section for new updates. However, there seems to be an old bug that is still active on the platform, preventing certain system apps from receiving updates properly via the Play Store.
This issue has been reported for over a year now, but it’s still evident in Google’s app store. Normally, system apps that are installed by manufacturers and can’t be easily removed should show available updates in the Play Store. However, when users access the menu for pending app updates, where all the latest versions should appear for updating, certain native apps don’t show any new versions.
But here’s the interesting part: if users directly access the Play Store page for these apps, they do have the option to update. This bug can prevent certain apps from being properly updated to their latest versions.
Some of the affected apps include Android Switch, Android System Intelligence, Google Partner Setup, Google Wi-Fi Provisioner, Settings Services, and YouTube.
What’s even more curious is that this problem isn’t new. It started being reported by official Google channels and on social media over a year ago, yet here we are in 2025 and it’s still quite visible.
For now, the only alternative is for users to directly access the Play Store pages for each app to check for any recent updates. It’s a bit of a hassle, but until this bug is fixed, it’s the best workaround.
