Bing follows Google in removing links to cached pages in search results due to changes in the internet ecosystem and the availability of alternative platforms like WayBackMachine.
- Following in the footsteps of Google
- Adopting the same idea as Google
- Alternative option available through WayBackMachine
Following in the footsteps of Google, Bing has also confirmed that it will start removing links associated with search result caches. This feature, which appeared in Bing searches, allowed users to access cached pages within Microsoft’s search engine. Google had a similar functionality but recently discontinued it, offering users the Way Back Machine platform as an alternative – a service that archives websites on the internet. Now, Bing is also adopting the same idea, no longer providing direct access to site caches in search results.
According to Microsoft, one of the reasons behind this decision lies in the changes happening within the internet ecosystem, as well as some recent issues with loading web pages within the cache system. It is unknown how extensively this feature was being used by Bing users.
Partly, as many websites now employ increasingly dynamic scripts, cache systems are becoming somewhat obsolete, as they don’t always guarantee the best results for viewing outdated content. In the past, caches were a way to see older versions of websites or content that had been removed over time, but this trend has been fading in recent years.
For those looking to access older versions of websites, the WayBackMachine is currently one of the best alternatives available, and it is constantly being updated. So, while Bing is bidding farewell to its cache links, there are still options out there for those who want to take a trip down memory lane on the web.
