Digi has made its way to Portugal, aiming to offer an enticing experience to consumers. However, the operator’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. One major hurdle is the lack of 5G support for Samsung and Google devices on Digi’s network. This means that users of these devices won’t be able to directly access Digi’s 5G network, significantly limiting their network speeds and access to certain features.
It’s important to note that 5G support is provided by the device manufacturers themselves, and Digi doesn’t have direct control over providing access on these devices. In the case of Samsung devices, there’s now confirmation of when Digi’s 5G support will arrive.
In response to a query, Samsung Portugal stated that they are working with Digi to provide 5G support on their devices, and it’s expected to roll out in the coming weeks through the One UI 6 update on Android 14. This update will enable users to access 5G networks and utilize VoLTE and VoWIFI.
However, this response has left some questions unanswered, particularly for users with older Samsung devices. Samsung only mentions that the update will be available for devices running One UI 6 with Android 14, which excludes older devices that may still support 5G but are no longer receiving updates from Samsung.
It’s unclear whether Samsung plans to provide the update for older models to also receive Digi’s 5G support. It seems likely that only newer models currently supported by Samsung will be the first to receive the update.
As for Google devices, there’s no information available at the moment. We’ll have to wait and see if Google follows in Samsung’s footsteps and collaborates with Digi to bring 5G support to their devices as well.
In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, it’s not uncommon to encounter compatibility issues like these. While it may be frustrating for users who are eagerly awaiting 5G access on their devices, it’s important to remember that these challenges are often a result of the complex interplay between network operators and device manufacturers.
So, if you’re a Digi customer with a Samsung or Google device, keep an eye out for updates in the coming weeks. And if you’re still rocking an older device, well, it might be time to consider an upgrade if you want to fully embrace the blazing-fast speeds of 5G.
