Microsoft is currently investigating a new issue that’s causing trouble for Outlook users on Microsoft 365. This glitch is causing the email reader to freeze up when users try to copy content from it. Talk about frustrating, right?
The problem seems to be most prevalent in version 18025.20096 of Outlook, particularly when using languages with an Input Method Editor (IME). So, if you’re selecting and copying text within Outlook, including email messages, there’s a chance the whole thing could freeze up on you, forcing you to restart the process. Ugh.
Thankfully, Microsoft is on the case and working on a solution. However, they haven’t given us any details on when exactly that solution will be available. In the meantime, they suggest that affected users try downgrading to a previous version of the Outlook Email Client that isn’t affected by this pesky glitch.
Now, downgrading might sound a bit daunting, but fear not! Microsoft has provided a handy command-line workaround to help you out. Just follow these steps:
1. Open the command prompt by typing “cmd” into the Windows search bar and hitting Enter.
2. In the command prompt window, type or copy and paste the following command: cd %programfiles%Common FilesMicrosoft SharedClickToRun
3. Press Enter.
4. Next, type or copy and paste this command: officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17928.20156
5. Press Enter again.
Voila! You’ve successfully downgraded your Outlook Email Client. But, be aware that downgrading might result in the loss of some features or content. So, proceed with caution and maybe consider using alternative email clients until the official fix is available.
It’s frustrating when technology doesn’t work as expected, especially when it affects something as important as our email. But, hey, at least Microsoft is aware of the issue and actively working on a solution. In the meantime, let’s hope their workaround helps you get back to smoothly copying and pasting those important emails.
