Instagram is updating its app to address the frustrating issue of content refreshes, with the head of the company confirming the change and providing a technical explanation.
- Addresses a frustrating experience for users
- Improves overall user experience
- Shows commitment to making the app more user-friendly
How many times have you opened Instagram, started scrolling through some interesting content, only to have it suddenly refresh and show you something completely different? It’s a frustrating experience that many users have complained about, but it looks like Meta is finally doing something about it. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has confirmed that the company is updating the app to address this annoyance, and he even provided a bit of technical explanation.
Mosseri admits that this issue has bothered him as well. The problem stems from the fact that when you open the Instagram app, it starts updating the content on your screen. This involves refreshing the list of posts that appear for you. While this allows you to see the most recent and personalized content, it can also cause you to miss out on content that was already visible. Essentially, the app would prioritize fresh content over what you were currently looking at.
But with the recent update, Instagram is changing its approach. Instead of immediately updating what you see on your screen, it will now put those updates “on hold.” The app will still download new content when you open it, but it won’t disrupt your current browsing experience.
Mosseri assures us that this change has already been implemented on the platform. While it has resulted in a slight decrease in engagement with posts, it ultimately improves the overall user experience. Now, you can scroll through your feed without worrying about losing sight of content that you were interested in.
It’s great to see Instagram addressing this issue and taking user feedback into consideration. This update shows that the company is committed to making the app more user-friendly and enjoyable. So the next time you open Instagram, you can expect a smoother browsing experience without those frustrating content refreshes.
