Huawei launches stable version of its own operating system, HarmonyOS Next, in China, with plans for continuous improvements and focus on optimizing user experience and device performance.

  • HarmonyOS Next is a dedicated operating system developed by Huawei, allowing the company to fully leverage the capabilities of its hardware.
  • The stable final version of HarmonyOS Next has been released and is expected to roll out to other Huawei devices soon.
  • The system will continue to receive improvements, with a focus on optimizing user experience and device performance.

Huawei has been facing a series of sanctions imposed by the US, prompting the company to develop its own domestic alternatives. One of these alternatives is its very own operating system. Instead of relying on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), Huawei has been working on a dedicated system called HarmonyOS Next. While the original version of HarmonyOS was still based on the open-source version of Android, the company wasn’t entirely satisfied with it. The Next version, as the name suggests, is an advanced iteration that ditches the Android base in favor of a dedicated architecture.

Today, during the launch event for the new Mate 70 and Mate X6 in China, Huawei also launched the stable final version of HarmonyOS Next. After months of testing and continuous development, the official version is now available and is expected to roll out to other Huawei devices soon. The company has stated that the system will continue to receive various improvements in the coming months, with a focus on optimizing user experience and device performance. Having a dedicated system allows Huawei to fully leverage the capabilities of its hardware and reduces reliance on external systems and components.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that HarmonyOS Next will be released outside of China, as it is primarily tailored to this market and the devices sold in the region.
