Google Messages to offer enhanced image quality options for users

November 4, 2024 by our News Team

Google Messages is testing new features that allow users to choose between sending photos in standard or full resolution, as well as a system to avoid receiving potentially unwanted images and videos.

  • Users have more control over the quality of photos they send
  • Option to send photos in full resolution with minimal loss of quality
  • System to help users avoid receiving potentially unwanted images and videos

Google’s messaging app is testing a new feature that gives users more control over the quality of the photos they send. Similar to other messaging platforms, Google Messages is now allowing users to choose between sending photos in standard resolution or full resolution.

When photos are sent in standard resolution, the content is compressed, which may result in a smaller image size and potential visual effects or loss of quality. However, it also takes less time to send and uses fewer data. On the other hand, sending photos in full resolution ensures minimal loss of quality, allowing users to view the content exactly as it was originally captured. But this option may take longer to send and consume more data.

These new features are currently being tested in the latest version of Google Messages, and it’s unclear when they will be available to all users.

In addition to the resolution options, Google is also testing a system to help users avoid receiving potentially unwanted images and videos. The app will display an alert for potentially sensitive content, such as nudes, when an image or video with that theme is sent. This way, users can avoid opening such content in inappropriate settings.

Both the recipient and the sender will be able to see the sensitive content alert, with the sender receiving a notification message warning about the potentially unwanted content.

While these updates are still in the testing phase, they could become available to all users in the near future. It’s exciting to see Google working on enhancing user control and privacy within its messaging app.
