Intel has postponed its annual trade show, Innovation 2024, due to financial concerns and will instead host smaller developer events, raising doubts about the show's future.

1. Intel is taking proactive steps to streamline operations and regain profitability. 2. The company is committed to engaging with the developer community through smaller events and industry gatherings. 3. The postponement of Innovation 2024 will not affect the launch of highly anticipated products, such as Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake.

Intel, in its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and regain profitability, is making tough decisions and cutting costs wherever possible. This includes postponing its fall trade show, Innovation 2024, which was originally scheduled for September of this year. The event will now take place sometime in 2025.

Innovation is Intel’s annual showcase for developers, customers, and the public, serving as a platform to provide updates on Intel’s fabs, introduce new client platforms, and launch new products. However, after three successful years, the future of Innovation is uncertain as Intel has officially postponed the show without a clear commitment to its return.

In a message posted on the Innovation 2024 website and sent via email, Intel announced the postponement and stated that instead of the show, they will be hosting smaller developer events. The company plans to continue engaging with the developer community through webinars, hackathons, meetups, and other industry events.

Intel cited its current financial situation as the reason behind this decision, as the company aims to align its cost structure and rebuild a sustainable engine of process technology leadership. While the full agenda for Innovation 2024 had not been published, the show was expected to feature Intel’s highly anticipated Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake client processors, both set to launch this fall. The postponement of the show will not affect these launches directly, but it does mean that Intel will miss out on the opportunity to showcase these products on their own stage.

It remains unclear if Intel will be able to host a show before the second half of 2025, given the lead time required to secure venues like the SAN Jose Convention Center. This raises doubts about the viability of Innovation 2024, as by the time a show could be organized, it would be closer to Innovation 2025, essentially rendering the 2024 edition canceled.

In the meantime, Intel has already announced that they will be unveiling Lunar Lake at IFA in Germany this September, making it the next significant trade show for Intel’s client chip group.

Technology Explained

SAN: A Storage Area Network (SAN) is a high-speed and specialized network architecture designed to facilitate the connection of storage devices, such as disk arrays and tape libraries, to servers. Unlike traditional network-attached storage (NAS), which is file-based, SAN operates at the block level, enabling direct access to storage resources. SANs are known for their performance, scalability, and flexibility, making them ideal for data-intensive applications, large enterprises, and environments requiring high availability. SANs typically employ Fibre Channel or iSCSI protocols to establish dedicated and fast communication paths between servers and storage devices. With features like centralized management, efficient data replication, and snapshot capabilities, SANs offer advanced data storage, protection, and management options. Overall, SAN technology has revolutionized data storage and management, enabling organizations to efficiently handle complex storage requirements and ensure reliable data access.
