CES Las Vegas, Computex Taipei

The annual Computex computer expo in Taipei is expected to be a busy and significant event, with all major PC chip firms delivering keynotes and making exciting announcements about their products and the AI ecosystem.

  • Major chip firms delivering keynote addresses
  • Expected to be one of the busiest shows in recent memory
  • Promises exciting announcements and updates from tech companies

The annual Computex computer expo is set to begin this weekend in Taipei, and this year’s show is expected to be one of the busiest in recent memory. Often considered on par with CES as one of the most important PC trade shows of the year, Computex has been gaining traction in recent years with more substantial announcements from tech firms. This is because companies have aligned their product schedules to coincide with the second half of the year when retail sales are stronger due to back-to-school and holiday shopping periods.

This year’s show is shaping up to be a significant one for the PC ecosystem, with all major PC chip firms, including AMD, Intel, nVidia, and Qualcomm, scheduled to deliver keynote addresses. It’s unusual to have all four major chip firms presenting lengthy keynotes at Computex, so this indicates that we can expect some exciting announcements.

While the official opening of the show is on Monday, media briefings have already begun. Our own Gavin Bonshor has been in Taiwan since Tuesday for Intel’s 2024 Tech Tour, and this is just the beginning. We anticipate a flood of announcements from the major chip makers over the next few days.

As is customary, the keynotes from all four chip vendors will be broadcast live. Although the time zone difference might make it inconvenient for some viewers, most of the keynotes will take place at reasonable hours for North American audiences. For those unable to watch live, AnandTech will be live blogging most of these keynotes.

Let’s take a look at the Computex 2024 keynote schedule and what we can expect from each presentation.

NVIDIA (June 2nd, 7:00am ET):
NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang will deliver a talk on “what’s next for the AI ecosystem.” This keynote is the first and most mysterious of the four. NVIDIA has not revealed much about its intentions or the duration of the keynote. Given that NVIDIA’s products intersect with the AI market, the “AI ecosystem” could cover a wide range of topics.

AMD (June 2nd, 9:30pm ET):
AMD’s CEO Dr. Lisa Su will present a keynote titled “The future of high-performance computing in the AI era.” AMD’s keynote is the closest thing to a prime keynote that kicks off the entire show. Expect fresh news about AMD’s Zen 5 CPU core architecture and the chips built around it. Additionally, we may hear about AMD’s rapidly growing AI accelerator product line.

Qualcomm (June 3rd, 1:30am ET):
Qualcomm’s CEO Cristiano Amon will deliver a keynote on “The PC Reborn.” As the new player in the PC space, Qualcomm will focus on its Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus SoCs, which are just a few weeks away from shipping. Expect Qualcomm to showcase its new Windows-on-ARM platform and highlight the energy efficiency and AI-accelerated experiences users can expect from their next-generation PCs.

Intel (June 3rd, 11:00pm ET):
Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger will present a keynote titled “Bringing AI Everywhere.” Intel has been upfront about what to expect from its hour-long presentation. The company will discuss AI PCs, Xeon 6 Processors, Gaudi AI accelerators, and Intel’s OpenVINO software ecosystem. Look out for announcements about Intel’s forthcoming mobile PC SoC, Lunar Lake, as well as updates on their server CPUs and AI accelerators.

Overall, Computex 2024 promises to be an exceptional show with major announcements from all four chip vendors. Stay tuned for more updates as the event unfolds.
