EK, the provider of computer cooling solutions, has launched a revolutionary water block specifically designed for the LGA 1700 socket and tailored to delidded Intel Core CPUs. This product boasts a range of enhancements that cater to the needs of 14th-generation CPUs, setting it apart from its predecessor, the Intel Direct Die water block. The new water block features a purpose-developed cold plate, cooling fin structure, and mounting mechanism. One notable aspect is the implementation of standoffs positioned at the four corners of the water block, ensuring optimal contact with the CPU. This eliminates concerns about applying excessive or insufficient pressure on the bare CPU die, similar to the AM5 Direct Die water block.
The latest offering fromEKWB, known as the EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 Core Edition, has been meticulously crafted from scratch to maximize performance with 14th-generation Intel Core CPUs. The top of the water block is made of transparent acrylic that resembles glass, with captivating D-RGB illumination shining through. The top is adorned with aluminum bars that intersect with two G1/4″ extenders, interrupting the flow and adding a touch of elegance. These extenders are standard Torque micro extenders and can be replaced with other products from the EK-Quantum Torque Micro series, such as extenders with different finishes or HDP and HDC fittings.
Unlike its predecessor, the Velocity² Direct Die 1700 water block, the mounting mechanism on the Velocity² Direct Die – 1700 Core Edition relies on standoffs at all corners instead of the cold plate making direct contact with the die guard. The cold plate features a horizontally offset protruding section designed to cover the CPU die area. The fin structure has been optimized to direct most of the coolant flow over the die and disperse it to both sides. This flow optimization was achieved through the use of a specialized jet plate and its offset slip, as well as a horizontally offset microfin array. These design elements ensure that the coolant flows over the hottest parts of the microfins, just above the CPU die area.
To show appreciation to customers who have previously purchased the EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 water block, EK is offering a 15% discount on the latest Core Edition water block. Customers must contact EK Support to verify their previous purchase and obtain the discount code for the new version.
The EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 Core Edition is certified under the EK-Matrix7 system, which brings convenience and precision to PC Liquid Cooling. This certification ensures that the product’s height and port distance are managed in 7 mm increments, simplifying loop planning and tube bending. With meticulous planning and thoughtful design, EK aims to make building a liquid-cooled PC an easy and enjoyable experience.
The new EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 Core Edition CPU water block is compatible exclusively with Intel’s LGA 1700 socket and delidded Intel Core Series desktop CPUs.
For those seeking D-RGB compatibility, the EK-Quantum Velocity² D-RGB Direct Die – 1700 Core Edition CPU water blocks seamlessly integrate with popular addressable RGB sync technologies offered by major motherboard manufacturers. The arrow marking on the 3-pin D-RGB LED connector aligns with the +5V marking on the addressable RGB header.
The EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 Core Edition water block is currently available for pre-order through the EK Webshop and Partner Reseller Network. Shipping is expected to commence in mid-July 2024. The suggested retail price for the EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB – 1700 Core Edition is €226.81 (VAT excluded).

Liquid Cooling: Liquid cooling is a technology used to cool down computer components, such as processors, graphics cards, and other components that generate a lot of heat. It works by circulating a liquid coolant, such as water or a special coolant, through a series of pipes and radiators. The liquid absorbs the heat from the components and then dissipates it into the air. This technology is becoming increasingly popular in the computer industry due to its ability to provide more efficient cooling than traditional air cooling methods. Liquid cooling can also be used to overclock components, allowing them to run at higher speeds than their rated speeds. This technology is becoming increasingly popular in the gaming industry, as it allows gamers to get the most out of their hardware.
