AMD, the technology company, has announced that Sun Singapore Systems, the largest smart parking solutions provider in Singapore, is deploying a new AI-based smart parking solution powered by AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC devices. The system improves the accuracy of vehicle license plate recognition and enables advanced features such as parking spot vacancy detection, lane jam detection, accident detection, and parking violation enforcement.
Sun Singapore’s smart parking system uses PlanetSpark’s EdgeAI Box X7, which is powered by FPGA-based AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs. Aupera Technologies also contributed to the development of FPGA firmware and AI vision solutions for accurate license plate reading. The resulting solution provides low Latency, energy efficiency, and real-time AI inferencing at the edge. FPGAs offer the hardware flexibility needed to adapt to changing AI models and algorithms.
Eddie Ng, senior sales manager at Sun Singapore, stated that the AMD FPGA-based edge AI solution was chosen for its durability, low latency, and flexibility. The adaptability of the solution will allow Sun Singapore to deliver new applications to improve car parking system features and services for customers.
PlanetSpark’s Managing Director, Ms. Phuay Li Ying, expressed delight in working with AMD on this solution, which will bring significant improvements to the smart parking market.
The current technology inside most electronic parking systems in Singapore is over two decades old and lacks AI inferencing capabilities. This new solution will enhance the system greatly, allowing data generated through AI to provide advanced reporting to car park operators.
With the AMD solution, Sun Singapore can now provide a total solution for smart parking, offering license plate reading accuracy of 99%, updated parking spot vacancy detection, and parking violation enforcement.
Chetan Khona, senior director of Industrial, Vision, Healthcare and Sciences Markets at AMD, highlighted the power of AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC in enabling access to sensor fusion applications. By processing data from various inputs, customers can leverage AI to enhance processes across a variety of applications, including smart city, manufacturing, and robotics.

Latency: Technology latency is the time it takes for a computer system to respond to a request. It is an important factor in the performance of computer systems, as it affects the speed and efficiency of data processing. In the computer industry, latency is a major factor in the performance of computer networks, storage systems, and other computer systems. Low latency is essential for applications that require fast response times, such as online gaming, streaming media, and real-time data processing. High latency can cause delays in data processing, resulting in slow response times and poor performance. To reduce latency, computer systems use various techniques such as caching, load balancing, and parallel processing. By reducing latency, computer systems can provide faster response times and improved performance.
