QNAP Systems, Inc. has announced the release of an upgraded Security Center for its NAS devices, featuring a new “Unusual File Activity Monitoring” tool. This tool is designed to assess system risks and provide protection against potential security threats. The Security Center actively scans, monitors, and analyzes the NAS status and file activity, while also offering instant protective measures against attacks. It also integrates virus scanning and malware removal software to ensure complete protection and reduce the risk of data loss.
According to Jimmy Tan, product manager of QNAP, the company has developed active protection measures to ensure robust security checks and data protection for NAS devices. The new “Unusual File Activity Monitoring” feature takes a proactive approach to monitor unusual file activities on the NAS and provides instant security measures against potential or confirmed security threats. Tan encourages all QNAP users to join the beta test of this feature and provide feedback to help improve the solutions.
Key features of the Security Center include active file activity monitoring, instant security measures, NAS security status scanning and checkups, customized security policies, instant alert notifications, and integration with anti-virus and malware removal software. Users can monitor the system status, track unusual file activities, and take quick response actions to mitigate potential security threats. The Security Center also allows users to configure their own security policies based on their network environment’s requirements.
Users will receive instant alerts via email or mobile push notifications when risk alerts are triggered, ensuring they stay informed about critical risk assessment information and have control over the latest NAS system status. The Security Center also integrates virus scanning and malware removal software from QNAP’s App Center, providing comprehensive NAS protection.
The full features of the Security Center and the beta program for the Unusual File Activity Monitoring feature can be found on QNAP’s website. Please note that features are subject to change and may not be available for all QNAP products.

Technology Explained
NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.
