Intel’s 15th Gen Arrow Lake iGPU Revealed: A Modest Speed Boost Over Meteor Lake

April 16, 2024 by our News Team

Intel's upcoming 15th Gen Arrow Lake processors, featuring a chiplet design and Xe-LPG graphics architecture, are expected to offer a modest speed boost over their predecessors, with early benchmarks showing a slight advantage and rumors suggesting a significant uplift in performance compared to similar-core iGPUs.

  • Introduction of chiplet design for desktop parts
  • Potential for improved performance and efficiency with Xe-LPG graphics architecture
  • Possible speed boost over predecessor, Meteor Lake

Intel is set to release its 15th Gen Arrow Lake processors later this year, with the Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs expected to arrive first, followed by the Arrow Lake-H/U mobility chips. These processors will mark Intel’s entry into chiplet design for desktop parts, although unlike AMD’s approach, all the CPU cores will be on the same die while the integrated graphics and I/O will use separate dies.

Recent graphics benchmarks of the Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake-H processors have been spotted in the SiSoftware database, giving us a glimpse of their performance compared to the competition. These benchmarks indicate that the Arrow Lake parts are slightly faster than their predecessor, Meteor Lake, which is not surprising as both utilize the Xe-LPG graphics architecture.

The Arrow Lake-S desktop iGPU will consist of 64 Vector Engines and 512 ALUs (Arithmetic Logic Units), while the Arrow Lake-H unit will pack twice as many with 128 VEs and 1024 ALUs. These specifications make them comparable in speed to their Meteor Lake predecessors, and they may even have a slight advantage when they hit the market.

Rumors suggest that Lunar Lake will be the first Core Ultra CPU to adopt the 2nd Gen Battlemage graphics architecture. This new architecture is expected to offer a significant uplift of 40-60% over similar-core Xe-LPG iGPUs. Battlemage achieves this by doubling the SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) width to 16, but reducing the Vector Engine count per Xe Core.

While these benchmarks provide an early indication of the performance we can expect from Intel’s upcoming Arrow Lake processors, it’s important to note that they are based on engineering samples and may not fully represent the final product. However, if these results hold true, Intel’s Arrow Lake processors could offer a modest speed boost over their predecessors.

Overall, Intel’s 15th Gen Arrow Lake processors are shaping up to be a promising addition to the market. With their chiplet design and Xe-LPG graphics architecture, these processors have the potential to deliver improved performance and efficiency. As we await their official release in the last quarter of this year, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the competition and whether they can help Intel regain its position as a leader in the CPU market.
