In the grim darkness of the future, chaos looms once again. A mysterious plague known as ‘the Bloom’ has emerged in the Tyrtaeus sector, and the arrival of an Imperial Inquisitor heralds a series of events that will put your tactical skills to the ultimate test. Get ready to take command of the Grey Knights, an elite chapter of Space Marines, in Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters.
The Grey Knights are a force to be reckoned with, whether they’re picking off enemies from a distance or engaging them in brutal melee combat. These elite soldiers have impeccable aim, ensuring every shot counts when facing the forces of Chaos. By repeatedly attacking foes, you can stun them, opening up opportunities to target specific body parts and cripple their effectiveness. You can even unleash stunning executions to give your entire squad an extra action.
Prepare to face off against formidable boss enemies known as the Reapers of the Bloom. From towering Greater Daemons like Aeger the Benevolent to the massive Chaos Knight, Cruciatus the Generous, each encounter will require you to adapt your tactics for victory. But the gravest threat of all awaits those who delve deeper into the Bloom: Mortarion, the Death Lord and Primarch of the Death Guard.
As the Force Commander, you have the ability to personalize each battle-Brother in your Grey Knights squad. Customize their appearance, from crests and skin color to armor pieces and more. Each Grey Knight starts as a particular class, such as Justicar, Interceptor, Apothecary, or Purgator. As you progress through the campaign, you’ll unlock four advanced classes. With experience, you can further shape their training to suit your playstyle, turning them into the ultimate weapon against the darkness.
The enemy you’ll face across the expansive campaign is unpredictable and varied. Nurgle’s forces, including Poxwalkers, Helbrutes, Plague Marines, and Myphitic Blight-haulers, will mutate and adapt depending on the strain of the Bloom present. This not only changes their appearance but also grants them combat buffs, such as additional armor.
Harness the power of Psykers in battle. Each Grey Knight possesses a reserve of Willpower, which is spent on psychic powers. Slaying enemies on the battlefield replenishes this reserve. From enhancing melee attacks to providing area of effect buffs, psychic powers can turn the tide of battle. Additionally, by supporting Inquisitor Vakir’s research into the Bloom, you’ll unlock powerful single-use psychic abilities called Stratagems.
Between battles, you’ll command the Strike Cruiser, the Baleful Edict. Monitor the spread of the Bloom via the Star Map and make tough choices on where to go next. Leaving an outbreak unchecked leads to increased enemy resistance, so strategic decision-making is crucial. The combat zones themselves will change over time as the Bloom takes hold, offering new cover opportunities and hazards. Utilize the environment to your advantage, setting waypoints for your Grey Knights to tactically maneuver around the battlefield.
Upgrade your command center, the Baleful Edict, to enhance your capabilities. Repair and upgrade your vessel in the Manufactorum, acquire equipment requisitions in the Armoury, and unlock tide-turning psychic abilities called Stratagems in the Libris Malleus. Show your dedication to the chapter and earn rewards such as additional Grey Knights, master-crafted weapons, armor, and specialized wargear. Completing optional combat mission challenges known as Glorious Deeds unlocks additional requisition points to spend in the armory.
Beware the unpredictable nature of the Warp. Warp Surges are combat events that can bring in reinforcements for the enemy, activate powerful mutations, and introduce unpredictable effects and hazards to the battlefield. The more corrupt the map, the more likely a Warp Surge event will occur. However, both enemy actions and Grey Knight abilities can influence Warp Surges as well.
Prepare yourself, Force Commander, for the battle against the Bloom. Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is available now on PC and will be released on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, Playstation 4, and Playstation 5 on February 20. Join your fellow Grey Knights on our social media channels to share your triumphs and eradicate this foul corruption!
