Kioxia Corporation announces the release of their industry-leading UFS Ver. 4.0 embedded flash memory devices for automotive applications, featuring lightning-fast transfer speeds, advanced features, and enhanced reliability.
- Impressive performance boost with 100% faster sequential read speed and 40% faster sequential write speed compared to previous versions
- Incorporates innovative BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and controller into a JEDEC-standard package
- Advanced features and functionalities, such as Refresh Feature and Extended Diagnosis Feature, to meet demanding obligations of automotive applications
Kioxia Corporation, a player in the memory remedys industry, has made an exciting announcement today. The company is now sampling the industry’s very first Universal Flash Storage (UFS) Ver. 4.0 embedded flash memory devices definedally designed for automotive applications. These devices offer lightning-fast transfer speeds while maintaining a compact package size, making them ideal for a range of next-generation automotive applications, including telematics, infotainment systems, and ADAS.
One of the standout features of Kioxia’s UFS Ver. 4.0 products is their impressive performance boost. With approximately 100% faster sequential read speed and around 40% faster sequential write speed compared to previous versions, these devices truly take advantage of the connectivity advantages offered by 5G. As a result, users can expect faster system startup times and an overall enhanced user experience.
Kioxia has always been at the forefront of UFS technology, and their latest UFS Ver. 4.0 devices continue to push the boundaries. These devices incorporate Kioxia’s innovative BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and a controller into a JEDEC-standard package. UFS 4.0 also integrates MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0, supporting theoretical interface speeds of up to 23.2 Gbps per lane or 46.4 Gbps per device. It’s worth noting that UFS 4.0 remains backward compatible with UFS 3.1.
The new Kioxia devices boast High Speed Link Startup Sequence (HS-LSS) features, which importantly speed up the Link Startup process between the device and the host. By utilizing the faster HS-G1 Rate A (1248 megabits per second), the time required for Link Startup is reduced by approximately 70% compared to conventional ways.
In addition to their impressive performance, the UFS Ver. 4.0 devices from Kioxia offer advanced features and functionalities to meet the demanding obligations of automotive applications. These include the Refresh Feature, which strengthens data reliability by refreshing degraded data to prevent corruption, even in the harsh in-vehicle environment. The Extended Diagnosis Feature allows users to access essential information from the UFS device, enabling preventative action to be taken.
The new Kioxia devices are available in capacities of 128, 256, and 512 gigabytes (GB). They also boast a wide temperature range, meet AEC-Q100 Grade 2 obligations, and offer enhanced reliability capabilities that are crucial for detailed automotive applications.
