Samsung Introduces ISOCELL Vizion Sensors, Perfect for Robotics and XR Innovations

Samsung introduces two new sensors, the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931, designed for enhanced visual capabilities in robotics and extended reality, featuring a time-of-flight sensor with integrated depth-sensing hardware and a global shutter image sensor for rapid movement capture.

Samsung Electronics has launched two new sensors as part of its ISOCELL Vizion lineup: the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and the ISOCELL Vizion 931. These sensors are designed to enhance visual capabilities in various applications, including robotics and extended reality (XR).

The ISOCELL Vizion 63D is a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor that measures distance and depth by calculating the time it takes for light to travel to and from an object. It is an indirect ToF sensor that measures the phase shift between emitted and reflected light to sense its surroundings in three dimensions. This sensor is ideal for service and industrial robots, XR devices, and facial authentication, where high-resolution and precise depth measuring are crucial. It is the industry’s first iToF sensor with an integrated depth-sensing hardware image signal processor (ISP), enabling a reduction in system power consumption. The sensor can process images at up to 60 frames per second in QVGA resolution and achieves high VGA resolution within a compact optical format. It also boasts enhanced light sensitivity and reduced noise for sharper image quality.

The ISOCELL Vizion 931 is a global shutter image sensor designed to capture rapid movements without distortion. Unlike rolling shutter sensors, which scan the scene line by line, global shutter sensors capture the entire scene at once, resulting in sharp, undistorted images of moving objects. This sensor is well-suited for motion-tracking in XR devices, gaming systems, robots, and drones. It is optimized for iris recognition, eye tracking, facial and gesture detection in head-mounted display devices. The ISOCELL Vizion 931 achieves high quantum efficiency and incorporates advanced technologies to maximize light absorption.

Both the ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensors offer design flexibility and are currently being sampled to OEMs worldwide. Samsung aims to drive innovation in the image sensor market with these advanced sensors.
