- Brings together major players in the semiconductor industry to drive adoption of RISC-V globally
- Provides a single source for compatible RISC-V-based products, reference architectures, and solutions
- Led by experienced CEO with a strong background in the automotive industry and a focus on game-changing innovation and collaboration with the RISC-V community
In a move that aims to push forward the adoption of RISC-V globally, semiconductor industry players Robert Bosch GmbH, Infineon Technologies AG, Nordic Semiconductor ASA, NXP Semiconductors, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. have officially joined forces to establish Quintauris GmbH. With its headquarters in Munich, Germany, Quintauris aims to drive next-generation hardware development by providing a single source for compatible RISC-V-based products, reference architectures, and widely-used solutions across various industries.
The announcement of Quintauris’ formation was made back in August, with a focus on the automotive sector initially, but with plans to expand into mobile and IoT in the future. Leading the company as CEO is Alexander Kocher, who brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous role as President and CEO of Elektrobit, a global supplier of embedded and connected software products for the automotive industry. Kocher also served as Vice President and General Manager of Wind River’s automotive business unit.
Kocher expressed his excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead for Quintauris and the industries it will serve. He emphasized the company’s commitment to game-changing innovation and scalability in hardware development, with a focus on combining the best elements of RISC-V into a unified, commercialized proposition. Kocher also highlighted the importance of collaboration with the RISC-V community and the company’s ambition to be a long-term, sustainable offer in the semiconductor industry.
With all necessary regulatory approvals now obtained, Quintauris was formally established on December 22nd, 2023. RISC-V, an open-source chip architecture based on “Reduced Instruction Set Computer” (RISC) principles, was originally developed by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley in 2010.
